The UK’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival will return to Liverpool this autumn for its 22nd year.

Homotopia is back from 17 October to 1 December 2026, with this year’s festival taking place under the theme We Come Together.

The programme will bring theatre, performance, film, music and conversation to venues across Liverpool, celebrating queer creativity in all its forms.

This year’s festival will launch with 20th birthday celebrations for House of Suarez, while the programme will close with events marking Transgender Day of Remembrance and a special screening of April Ashley film Enigma.

Among the highlights is photographer Helen Constantinou’s The Gathering – Stop The Clause at Open Eye Gallery.

The exhibition confronts the legacy of Section 28 through images capturing the mass protests of 1988 against the legislation, which prohibited local authorities from “promoting homosexuality”.

There will also be a special screening of Project Triangle at 17: Young Queer and Still Here, documenting Young Homotopia’s 2009 journey to Auschwitz and Warsaw to explore the persecution of LGBTQIA+ people during the Holocaust and its lasting impact on queer history.

Music and nightlife will also play a major part in the festival, with a month of queer club nights taking place across Liverpool.

Events will include EAT Me Collective with Horrible Herstories, Noiregayze, Protect Scouse Dolls, a special Homotopia edition of Sonic Yootha, and Queer Cxntry Burnin’ Daylight, a country music-themed LGBTQIA+ club night presented by PINK SUITS.

Homotopia Festival 2026 runs from 17 October until 1 December at venues across Liverpool.
