Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is celebrating a major milestone as its popular Defeat Delamere trail run returns to Delamere Forest for its fifth anniversary on Sunday 13 September 2026.
First launched in 2022, Defeat Delamere has grown into one of the charity’s flagship fundraising events, bringing together runners of all ages and abilities to tackle the woodland trails while raising vital funds for people affected by lung cancer.

This year’s event is expected to welcome 1,000 runners, making it the biggest Defeat Delamere to date.
Participants can choose from four distances, with a 5K for ages 14+, 10K for ages 15+, 16K for ages 16+ and a Junior Run for ages four and over, offering something for runners of all ages and experience levels.
To celebrate the event’s fifth birthday, organisers are promising a festival atmosphere at Delamere Forest, with The Rock Choir, cheerleaders and supporters helping to keep runners motivated along the route.

Polly George, Events Fundraising Manager at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said:
“It’s incredible to be celebrating five years of Defeat Delamere. What started as an exciting new challenge has become a firm favourite in our events calendar, with an amazing community of loyal runners, volunteers and supporters returning year after year.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming around 1,000 participants this September for what promises to be our biggest and best event yet. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first trail run or bringing the family along for the Junior Run, every step helps us continue our work supporting people affected by lung cancer and funding life-saving research.”
Set against the backdrop of one of Cheshire’s most popular outdoor destinations, participants will take on scenic woodland trails, rolling hills and varied terrain before crossing the finish line to collect their medal and celebrate with fellow runners.
Every entry will help Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation continue its work funding research, raising awareness of lung cancer and supporting people living with the disease and their families.
With places expected to fill quickly, runners are being encouraged to register ahead of the event.
