“Good news is the spark that ignites our day, and trust me, for me, it very rarely comes my way”.
But, out of the blue – and something new, on this day, good news brightens my darkest days, weeks and months. I embraced it, cherished it, hugged it and offered it a cup of tea with no biscuits – the biscuits disappeared the night before. The tiniest bit of good news can lift the shiftless body to a victorious stance of chest beating, we then stand tall and proud, the feeling of everything being on your side is welcomed and warm. And for once, the crest inside the chest – the heart, beats beautifully, so buoyant and brisk. With no risk, well, until someone wants to ruin your happiness
The Good news. Morrissey is on tour, and one of the tour nights is in my city. So perfect. Morrissey will bring poetry to the Liverpudlian pavements upon pavements upon pavements. I’ll be at other tour gigs too, but in December 2026, it is a Christmas present on the banks of the misty Mersey. As Morrissey will appear – and I’ll be there.

The tour celebrates his recent album and masterclass of songwriting, MAKE-UP IS A LIE. A polished eclectic mix, compelling musical craftsmanship, velvet vocals and as ever, with poetic vision and comfort – lyrically questioning the life we lead, including society’s ways and boozy days. Social commentary about the unsociable world around us. It’s sharp and engaging.
For me, Boulevard highlights how Morrissey can smash and brutally bash into deep emotional notes, bringing us with him on a drunken journey home with the passing cars and stars – sensational. Monsters of Pig Alley and its rueful self-aware storytelling again captures the heart – already captured by Morrissey. And Zoom Zoom The Little Boy brings animals quite rightly to the forefront. They need protection, just like you and I.
As I write this article, I feel I should not single out favourites as all songs play such a fundamental part to make a complete album tick-tock with a faithful ease to the albums truthful vision.
I’ve always wondered what makes Morrissey continue to observe and what motivates his approach? I can only guess, and I may well be way off the mark, but the world around us is a canvas, and he has the paint to portray the world around us in a way – nobody else can.
Currently, the world is dangerous and nervous, menacing and murderous. Perilous and tricky, tortuous and sticky. It seems ugly and smugly owned by those who forget what they own and why they own it, and just to let them know – it’s owned and shared by us too. The world is touch and go and ready to go, it’s wild and twirling around, dazed and the drugged and drained stars look down on the world in disbelief at the constant grief of the governed. The people don’t know whether they are this that or the other, whether they should press or defend, or to just burst the World Cup ball as nobody likes each other anyway.
Morrissey can articulate society, community and global issues better than I could ever dream of, and I’ve dreamt of it, and I failed in that too. If the world is the motivation, then Morrissey has plenty to choose from, and long may he continue to observe and slip droplets of poetry on the land of those trying to live in harmony, as others want us in a frail, frightening quandary. I am unsure how this chapter will end, if it ever does, then again, are we still on Chapter 1?
But besides all this, it’s still a wonderful world without the fools – and one day we will be without them. The days can be long, but we are strong. The sun will shine for us, the stars will align for us and for now we stay together, and at some point I’ll buy another football to replace the burst one at the World Cup.
Comments to myself about the timing of the tour have landed well, as fans around the globe have commented on the news. It brought togetherness, happiness, and it brought invaluable delight for a wonderful night of pretty much everything we need right now.
So, for me it’s Morrissey, but whoever has captured your imagination, take time to “Go out and find the one that you love.“
Love and peace,
Matthew Jacobson
