Liverpool pianist Brad Kella has been honoured with a permanent blue plaque at Liverpool ONE, marking the exact location where he first began busking before becoming one of the city’s most celebrated musicians.
The plaque was unveiled, recognising Brad’s journey from performing on a public piano in Liverpool city centre to becoming a nationally recognised pianist following his victory on Channel 4’s The Piano.
From busking in Liverpool to national recognition
Brad first captured the attention of shoppers while performing at Liverpool ONE, where his talent quickly became familiar to regular visitors.
His career took a major step forward after appearing on The Piano, the Channel 4 series that celebrates exceptional musicians performing at public pianos across the UK.
Following his success on the programme, Brad released his debut album Phoebe’s Melody, which reached the top of the UK Classical Albums Chart, and has since performed to audiences around the country.
The blue plaque now permanently marks the place where his career first began, celebrating a local musician whose story has inspired people across Liverpool and beyond.
The plaque has been installed as Liverpool ONE’s annual Tickle the Ivories festival returns for its 16th year.
Running until 11 September, the free event invites amateur and professional pianists to perform on public pianos located throughout Liverpool ONE.
This year’s festival also features the return of the popular Brad Kella-themed piano, alongside new designs created by local artists as part of the “Music and Memories” theme.
Celebrating a Liverpool success story
The new blue plaque not only celebrates Brad’s achievements but also highlights Liverpool’s reputation for nurturing musical talent.
Visitors to Liverpool ONE can now see the spot where Brad’s journey started, serving as a reminder that one performance on a public piano can lead to extraordinary opportunities.
For Liverpool music fans, the plaque is another addition to the city’s rich musical heritage, honouring one of its newest success stories while inspiring the next generation of performers.
