Marking 100 years of baking brilliance, Waterfields is celebrating a century of high street history that all began back in 1926.
What began with humble roots in Leigh has grown into a much-loved bakery with more than 35 shops across the North West.
Known for its carefully crafted artisan bakes and quality ingredients, the bakery has spent the last century perfecting its craft and developing a tempting range of baked goods enjoyed by locals across the region.
To mark its centenary, Waterfields is rolling back the price of its popular sausage roll from £1.85 to just 100 pence, available in store now until 1st June.
The celebration menu also includes a Chicken & Chorizo pasty, priced at £3.10, and a Steak & Ale Pie at £3.30, alongside limited-edition sweet treats such as Centenary Cupcakes, Sandwich Cakes and Tray Bakes.
A Century of Tradition and Quality

Founded in 1926, Waterfields has grown from a single local bakery into one of the North West’s most recognisable names on the high street and a major local employer.
While it has expanded and modernised over the decades, it has held firmly onto its original values: proper baking, fresh ingredients and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Every day, its skilled bakers continue to craft products from scratch, serving communities with the same care and attention that has defined the business for 100 years.
Scott Davies, co-owner of Waterfields, said:
“We’re delighted to be celebrating this monumental moment for the bakery. At Waterfields, we’re proud to have built a business that supports the community through our high street shops.
“What started as a small bakery in Mather Lane, Leigh, selling pies and confectionery to local factory workers, has grown to more than 30 shops, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support and loyalty of our community.
“We hope the local community join us across the next six weeks for some delicious treats to mark this brilliant milestone.”
Serving the Community Since 1926

The bakery’s journey from a small shop in Mather Lane to a regional staple is a testament to its enduring appeal.
By maintaining traditional methods in a modern market, Waterfields has remained a focal point for the towns it serves.
The 100-year anniversary represents more than just a date; it is a celebration of the generations of families who have chosen Waterfields for their daily bakes and special occasions.
Residents across the North West are invited to visit their local shop during the next six weeks to take part in the festivities and sample the anniversary range.
