To commemorate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, NPK Media partnered with Chester Zoo and Liverpool poet Joseph Roberts to create a heartfelt video tribute celebrating one of the world’s most important voices for nature, wildlife and the planet.
The project was built around a powerful piece of spoken-word storytelling intended to reflect the vast scale of Attenborough’s global influence.
As one of the leading conservation organisations in the UK, Chester Zoo provided the ideal backdrop for the production.
Over two days, a four-person team from NPK Media captured the beauty and significance of the zoo’s work, utilising cinematic wide-format video, portrait social content, photography, and drone footage.
The Power of Poetry and Conservation
At the heart of the film is Joseph Roberts, a poet from Liverpool renowned for his ability to inject local authenticity and rhythm into cultural narratives.
His words transformed the project into a sincere thank-you for Attenborough’s lifetime of education and inspiration.
The creative strategy sought to bridge the gap between Attenborough’s legendary career, the active conservation missions at Chester Zoo, and the visceral impact of poetry.
Stephen Brookes, Founder & Creative Strategist at NPK Media, said:
“David Attenborough has helped millions of people fall in love with the natural world.
“We wanted to create something that felt worthy of that legacy, not just a birthday message, but a genuine thank-you.
“Working with Chester Zoo and Joseph Roberts gave us the perfect combination of conservation, poetry and visual storytelling. It was a privilege to help tell that story.”
A Legacy in Action
The production team worked alongside animal care staff and keepers to ensure every shot supported the film’s core message.
For the zoo, the collaboration was an opportunity to highlight how storytelling remains a vital tool in reconnecting people with the environment.
Vicky Ashdown, AV Production & Talent Manager, added:
“As a conservation and education charity, we know that protecting nature starts with people feeling connected to it, and storytelling plays a huge part in that.
“Working with Liverpool poet Joseph Roberts and NPK media to create this project has been a powerful way to honour Sir David Attenborough and his extraordinary 100-year legacy.
“Sir David’s captivating storytelling has brought the planet’s biodiversity into our living rooms, classrooms and the hearts of millions around the world, inspiring so many to care about the natural world and even pursue careers in conservation.
“At Chester Zoo, we see his legacy every single day, in the passion of our team caring for 30,000 animals.
“Joseph’s poetry offers a fresh and emotive way of bringing these messages to life, reminding us of the responsibility we all share to continue this vital work for the next hundred years.”
The resulting film stands as both a celebration of a remarkable century and a poignant reminder that the responsibility to protect the natural world now belongs to everyone.
For NPK Media, the project exemplified their focus on purpose-driven content, blending high-end technical execution with a story that carries genuine emotional weight.
