The Watering Can brings its sell-out roast back a month early due to overwhelming demand

The Watering Can brings its sell-out roast back a month early due to overwhelming demand

Following overwhelming demand from customers, The Watering Can is bringing its hugely popular Sunday Roast back a month earlier than usual, with the first service of the 2026 season taking place on Sunday 13 September.

The Liverpool City Region Tourism award-winning restaurant, set in the heart of Greenbank Park, has built up a strong and loyal following for its Sunday Roast, with customers travelling for miles and Sunday services frequently fully booked.

Traditionally returning in October, this year enquiries began while summer heatwave was still in full swing, prompting The Watering Can to bring its autumn season forward by four weeks.

Over the years, the restaurant has created something of a Sunday Roast Society feel, with familiar faces, families and friends returning throughout the season and making Sunday lunch at The Watering Can part of their weekend ritual.

With the first service now just days away, the message is simple: Don’t wait until Sunday to think about Sunday!

The numbers give some indication of its popularity.

Last year’s record-breaking season saw The Watering Can serve more than 2,500 Sunday Roasts, including over 1,500 chicken supremes, 320kg of beef, 500kg of roast potatoes and 240kg of honey-roasted carrots, while more than 375 litres of homemade gravy were poured.

This year, guests can enjoy two courses for £28 or three courses for £36, with The Main Event offering a choice of Salt-aged Hereford Beef Rump, Chicken Supreme, Roasted Lamb Rump or Wild Mushroom and Hazelnut Roast – served with all the trimmings and The Watering Cans popular Truffle Cauliflower Cheese back on the menu.

For years, The Watering Can has confidently described its Sunday Roast as “As Good As Ya Ma’s” – and this year is no exception.

Owner Keith Perryman said:

“The response we’ve had before we’ve even brought the roast back has been incredible. Usually we’d wait until October, but it became obvious that our customers didn’t want to wait that long.  Sunday lunch is something we genuinely love doing. A huge amount of care goes into every service and we want people to sit down, relax and enjoy everything a proper Sunday should be about – great food and time around the table with family and friends. We’ve always said it’s ‘As Good As Ya Ma’s’ and for 2026 we’re saying it’s Still As Good As Ya Ma’s. We’re ready to get started and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

Set within 12 acres of Greenbank Park and overlooking its historic walled garden, The Watering Can provides the perfect setting for Sunday lunch – a walk around the park followed by giant Yorkshires, crispy roasties, plenty of homemade gravy and absolutely no washing up.

Bookings are now open for Sunday 13 September and throughout the autumn season, with early booking strongly recommended.

Be one of the first back at the table and join The Watering Can’s popular Sunday Roast Society.
