Sutcliffe raises £89,000 at its annual charity ball for the NHS

Sutcliffe raises £89,000 at its annual charity ball for the NHS

Civil and structural engineering firm Sutcliffe hosted its charity ball at the Titanic Hotel’s Rum Warehouse in April 2025. The annual event brought together professionals across construction, healthcare and the wider business community to support three local charities making a significant impact in the Liverpool City Region.

In aid of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, and University Hospitals of Liverpool Charity, each organisation was selected due to its alignment with Sutcliffe’s long standing support for the healthcare sector, and with many personal connections within the team.

Sutcliffe initially set a fundraising target of £75,000, with all proceeds supporting the vital work of local charities in delivering frontline care and advancing medical research across the Liverpool City Region. Due to overwhelming generosity of guests, sponsors, and supporters, the total raised on the night far surpassed expectations, reaching an incredible £89,000. Standout auction prizes, including a luxury seven-night stay in Portugal and exclusive signed sports memorabilia, played a key role in achieving this remarkable result.

This year’s ball took on greater significance due to a personal connection with the Sutcliffe team. Sutcliffe’s Communications Director, Jacqui Johnson, received a breast cancer diagnosis just five days after last year’s ball. Bravely sharing her journey during the evening added a powerful and emotional dimension, reinforcing the importance of funding cancer care and treatment.

Sutcliffe’s support for healthcare infrastructure across the North West remains a core part of its business. Sutcliffe has delivered engineering design and consultancy services for some of the region’s most recognisable medical institutions, including Mossley Hill Hospital, The Christie, Countess of Chester Hospital, Stepping Hill Hospital, Leigh Infirmary, Arrowe Park Hospital, Royal Liverpool Hospital, Liverpool Tropical School of Medicine, and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

The charity ball was another opportunity for the business to give back to the NHS and the inspiring individuals who work in it.

On the night, honorary NHS guests included leading clinicians such as Geraldine Mitchell, Head of Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and Deputy Medical Director for Surgery at University Hospitals of Liverpool Charity; Susan O’Neil, Head of Neonatal Services at Liverpool Women’s Hospital; and Dr Shaveta Mehta, Consultant in Clinical Oncology and Deputy Director of Clinical Research at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Austin Wilkinson Demolition was the headline sponsor of the evening, with further sponsors being Layer Surveys, Butterworth Spengler, Graham Construction, Titanic Hotel Liverpool, Tilbury Douglas Construction, Tilbury Douglas Engineering, Seddon Construction, John McCall Architects.

Sean Keyes, CEO at Sutcliffe, said:

“At Sutcliffe, we have always cared about the communities we work within and our charity ball was our way of saying thank you and giving back to an organisation that not only helps our families and friends at Sutcliffe, but also the millions of people across the region who have used its services. I’m very happy that we surpassed our target and raised £89,000 for three incredibly worthy causes. It is humbling to know the generosity of the Liverpool City Region and what special friends we have. In recent years, Sutcliffe has raised over £200,000 for our NHS and I would like to thank all of the team who made this possible.  Liverpool is the most generous place in the country. See you all next year.”
