A major milestone in the cultural calendar of Merseyside will take place this summer as a long-running arts festival prepares to receive the highest royal honour available to community volunteer organisations.
The much-loved Prescot Festival of Music and the Arts will return this summer, bringing 10 days of culture, music and community celebration to Knowsley.
Now in its 22nd year, the festival will run from Friday 19 June to Sunday 28 June 2026, featuring a programme of concerts, performances, workshops and family-friendly activities across Prescot.
The core highlight of the upcoming schedule centres on a significant civic accolade acknowledging decades of public service.
A major highlight of this year’s festival will take place on Friday, 26 June, when the organisation will formally receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honour awarded to volunteer groups in the UK.
The presentation will be made by the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, followed by the evening’s Easy Street Big Band concert.
The award recognises the festival team’s longstanding contribution to arts and culture in Knowsley and their commitment to community engagement.
Ten-Day Cultural Programme Spans Brass Spectaculars and Regional Orchestras
Beyond the royal ceremony, the festival boasts an expansive multi-disciplinary line-up showcasing prominent creative talent from across the North West.
The festival opens in style on Friday 19 June (7pm) at Prescot Parish Church with a Brass Spectacular performed by the Clock Face Miners Heritage Brass Band.
It continues with highlights including a Choral Celebration, an organ recital, theatre at Shakespeare North Playhouse, a barn dance, and performances from the Easy Street Big Band and South Liverpool Orchestra.
The organisers have also ensured that high-quality artistic experiences remain accessible to local residents through targeted, non-ticketed civic events.
Families can enjoy free events throughout the week, including the Primary Schools’ Choir Festival (22 June) and the Prescot Carnival at Brown’s Field (28 June).
