Liverpool FC has extended its deepest thanks to everyone who has taken the time, and continues to do so, to pay tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, at Anfield.
Since their tragic passing, thousands of heartfelt items, including flowers, scarves, artwork, cards, banners, and even rival team shirts, have been left to form a powerful and touching memorial outside the stadium. This tribute space has become a symbol of shared grief and solidarity, visited by fans, staff, players, and members of the brothers’ family.
Following consultation with Diogo’s family, the club has already confirmed that the number 20 shirt will be retired in his honour across all levels of LFC, including the Women’s team and Academy sides.
LFC has now confirmed further plans to create permanent memorials. Over the past week, tributes left outside Anfield have been respectfully collected, sorted, and safely stored. Floral tributes will be composted and used to enrich flower beds at Anfield, the AXA Training Centre, and AXA Melwood Training Centre. Remaining items will be recycled by a specialist firm and incorporated into a permanent memorial sculpture to be installed at Anfield.
In the meantime, a temporary reflection space has been set up at Anfield for those who wish to continue paying their respects.
Supporters who would like to honour Diogo can choose to have ‘Diogo J. 20’ printed on their shirts via official club stores or online. All profits from these sales will be donated to LFC Foundation, which is developing a grassroots football programme in Diogo’s name.
Tributes will also be observed throughout pre-season. During the matches in Asia, players will wear shirts featuring a specially designed ‘Diogo J. 20’ patch, with floral tributes laid prior to kick-off in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and at Anfield. On August 1, when the club’s new kits are launched, players will wear a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts and jackets for the entire season.
A major commemoration, including a special fan mosaic and a minute’s silence, is being planned for the Premier League opener at Anfield against AFC Bournemouth on Friday, August 15. Full details will follow.
Liverpool FC has once again thanked fans and the football community for their continued support and compassion during this incredibly difficult time.
