Independent businesses across Wirral join forces to create ‘Welcome To Wirral’ hampers for Hollywood stars

Independent businesses across Wirral have joined forces to create a number of epic ‘Welcome To Wirral’ hampers as gifts for some of Hollywood’s biggest names as they prepare to start filming a major movie in the area.

Independent film production company ‘Mad As Birds’, which is run by Wirral based trio, Bafta winning actor, writer and director Celyn Jones, along with film producers Andy Evans and Sean Marley are due to begin filming their latest Indie drama at various locations across Wirral and Liverpool later this week.   The Almond and The Seahorse, which stars Hollywood royalty Rebel Wilson, Charlotte  Gainsbourg, Trine Dyrholm and Meera Syal is based on the award winning stage play by Kate O’Reilly.

The opportunity arose when Independent Wirral were approached to help design welcome hampers to gift to the film cast and crew.

Hampers, which are packed full of incredible, hand-made items include donations from

LEAF, The Chocolate Cellar, Love Your Nation, Chemist & Co, Holy Fudge, Mersey Wax Wraps, Foragers Fancy, Boss Birds Parlour, Little Bears Fudgery, Casa Scents, Lila Boutique, BonBonz Sweets, Botanic Scent Company and Inspirations Wholesale.

Executive Director for Independent Wirral, Sharon Stanton commented:

‘We are absolutely thrilled to be able to showcase some of our amazing independent businesses in this way.  Independent Wirral has been set up to help support the best of the best here on Wirral and this initiative has really demonstrated what a passionate and creative community we have here on our doorstep.’

Independent Wirral was set up by the team at Wirral Chamber of Commerce during the first lockdown in March 2020 to help support, nurture and champion local independent businesses. Now, with over 100 partners, its own dedicated ‘Shop Local’ discount card and vibrant social media channels, Independent Wirral is fast becoming one of the most successful independent business hubs in the UK.

With plans underway to launch our own, dedicated Independent Wirral Market on 1st May, the team behind the initiative are confident that Independent Wirral will set the blueprint for grass-roots business support as the platform continues to grow.

CEO of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, Paula Basnett commented:

‘The Chamber are absolutely committed to supporting our Independent businesses here on Wirral.  The hampers are absolutely stunning and really do represent a fantastic cross-section of some of our amazing, local businesses.  We hope all the crew and cast have a great visit to the Liverpool City Region and we look forward to seeing the final cut.’
