MADE to be MUM’s offer in Kirkby is continuing to expand with the opening of an outdoor garden to coincide with their first year anniversary in the town.
MADE to be MUM, located at St Chad’s Parade, is a children’s play café, offering a play area on the ground floor where children are entertained whilst parents/carers can grab a coffee and a light bite in the café area.
The upper floor is used to host a range of workshops for parents/carers, including pregnancy yoga, hypnobirthing, baby sensory and meditation.
Now, MADE to be MUM is expanding into the outdoor space, which will include a play and sensory area, outdoor seating, as well as a mural.
This new space will be officially opened at an event on Friday, 19 June 2026, from 9.30 am – 4 pm.
MADE to be MUM was turned from an idea into a reality by Kirkby residents and mum-of-three, Sam.
Sam said:
“The welcome and response from the local community over the last year has been amazing.
“I’m a busy mum of three and it’s great that I’m able to offer something I know other parents and carers need as well as being able to offer it in my home town.”
The programme of events is continually updated to ensure local demand is met and includes early years phonics with “Robot Reg”, buggy walks, mindfulness sessions for mums, messy play, baby spa and baby yoga.
Sam added:
“I can’t believe I’ve been open for a year already, time really does fly when you’re having fun!
“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way and to everyone who attends a session or just pops in for a cuppa and a chat.
“I really appreciate your support.”
Transforming Vacant Town Centre Units Into Vibrant Family Spaces
The introduction of the custom-designed garden highlights a wider trend of independent business owners maximising urban environments to deliver essential community infrastructure.
Councillor Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, added:
“I’m delighted that Sam has made her dream a reality and transformed a once vacant unit into a vibrant family offer.
“Sam’s vision, energy and commitment are commendable.
“She has transformed every inch of space, which now includes the outdoor garden, into a great community hub.
“Well done Sam!”
The multi-level facility serves as a vital resource for regional families, bridging the gap between recreational play and structured parental wellness support groups.
Interactive Programming and Weekly Operational Schedules for Carers
The expanded outdoor zone is configured to host messy play workshops and specialised child development classes during the warmer summer months.
The indoor café continues to operate alongside the new garden development, offering a dedicated menu of light refreshments tailored for busy families on the move.
MADE to be MUM is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm.
