Liverpool is set to welcome a remarkable piece of maritime history this summer as a full-scale replica of the Nao Santa María arrives at the Royal Albert Dock for a special visit.
The historic vessel, famous for its role in one of the most significant voyages in world history, will be open to visitors from August 12 to 25, offering a unique opportunity to step aboard and experience life at sea during the Age of Exploration.

The Nao Santa María was the flagship used by Christopher Columbus during his 1492 voyage across the Atlantic, a journey that led to the European discovery of the Americas. Now, thanks to an initiative supported by the Provincial Council of Huelva in Spain, Liverpool has been selected as one of just 30 ports the ship will visit this year as part of its international outreach programme.
During its stay at the Royal Albert Dock, visitors of all ages will be able to explore the vessel’s decks, discover the conditions sailors lived in more than 500 years ago and learn about one of the most influential maritime expeditions ever undertaken.
Organisers describe the experience as both educational and cultural, offering a fascinating insight into the world of 15th-century navigation and the era of the great explorers.
The replica itself is an impressive achievement. Built by the Nao Victoria Foundation in Punta Umbría, Spain, construction took place over 14 months between January 2017 and March 2018. The project was supported by both the Provincial Council of Huelva and the Cajasol Foundation, creating an authentic recreation of the legendary ship.
The Liverpool visit is aimed at families, history enthusiasts, schools and community groups, with organised visits available for educational and association groups.
To mark the ship’s arrival, organisers have also launched an online ticket promotion offering discounted entry ahead of the visit. Visitors are advised to book in advance, as online tickets will be prioritised and no tickets will be available at the dock if advance sales sell out before the event.
The arrival of the Nao Santa María follows the successful visit of the Galeón Andalucía, another historic Spanish vessel that docked in Liverpool last year, attracting visitors eager to explore maritime history up close.
The Nao Santa María will be open daily from 10am until 8pm at the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool between August 12 and 25.
