Elite Bistros has announced the opening of Usher’s Bakehouse, Liverpool on Wednesday 20th August, at 46 Bridgewater Street in Liverpool, bringing the city the same irresistible baked goods that have taken Chester by storm.
Usher’s Bakehouse will open Wednesday to Sunday, from 8am – 3pm on weekdays and 8am – 1pm on Weekends. The first 25 customers each day for the first week will receive a free signature crème brûlée doughnut.

Since bursting onto the scene in Hoole, Chester in September 2024, Usher’s Bakehouse has built a loyal following of customers for its signature breads such as focaccia, sourdough and rye, which have become favourites on the menus of our Elite Bistro restaurants. In Liverpool, these well-loved breads will be accompanied on a counter that is constantly changing its array of indulgent treats, including doughnuts, pies, brownies, cookies and tarts.
Some of the bakes take direct inspiration from the Elite Bistro restaurants. For instance, the Crème Brule doughnut has been perfected as a sweet reimagining of the Elite Bistro classic. Additionally, the award-winning White Horse Pub in Churton (voted among UK’s top 100) has finessed their pies over the years and will now rightly take pride of place on the Liverpool counter, with delicious seasonal fillings.
Gary Usher comes from a long history of bakers. His Grandfather, Gordon Usher, opened the original Usher’s Bakehouse in St Albans, back in 1968. Gary’s father then took the reins and left school to take over the bakery, expanding to three sites, before the family sadly sold the business when Gordon’s health declined.
In 2024, Gary sought to revive the family name and opened Usher’s Bakehouse in Hoole, Chester. Since then, in May 2025 a crowdfunding campaign successfully raised £50,000, which was used to invest in new bread deck ovens, laying the foundations to the wholesale arm of the business. Opening the Bakehouse in Liverpool will prove a central role in starting this exciting new chapter, as Gary says, “Were super excited to be expanding the bakery. We’ve built something really special in Chester and we can’t wait to bring it to more people.”
Usher’s Bakehouse Liverpool is in the expert hands of Nathan Brockbank, who has Michelin-star pastry credentials and eight years of experience as an exec pastry chef for Manchester City Football Club. Nathan worked alongside Gary in the Chester Grosvenor and now develops and perfects all things sourdough and brownies in Usher’s Bakehouse.
Usher’s Bakehouse will have free crème brûlée doughnuts for the first 25 customers each day for the first opening week. Plus, catch them in the run-up to opening with a social ‘treasure hunt’ game to win a free sourdough – follow them on Instagram for more information @ushersbakehouse
