Visitors to Seacombe Ferry Terminal can once again enjoy freshly prepared food and drink following the reopening of the Discovery Café under new management.
The café is now operated by local catering specialist Crosby Fresh and is open seven days a week, serving breakfasts, lunches, snacks, homemade cakes and refreshments made using quality, locally sourced ingredients.
Crosby Fresh Takes Over Popular Waterfront Café

Located at the heart of Seacombe Ferry Terminal, the Discovery Café is expected to become a popular destination for Mersey Ferries passengers, commuters, visitors to Eureka! Science + Discovery, local residents and those exploring the River Mersey waterfront.
As well as managing the café, Crosby Fresh is already providing catering aboard the Snowdrop ferry and will also operate the catering service on the new Royal Daffodil when it enters service later this year.
The reopening forms part of wider investment in the Mersey Ferries experience, with plans to improve facilities both onshore and onboard while attracting more visitors to one of the Liverpool City Region’s best-known waterfront attractions.
Councillor Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome visitors back to the Discovery Café and to see this much-loved space at Seacombe Ferry Terminal brought back to life.
“The café is an important part of the overall visitor experience at Seacombe and its reopening reflects our wider ambition to strengthen and grow the Mersey Ferries offer as one of the most iconic visitor attractions in the UK.
“As we prepare to welcome the Royal Daffodil into service later this year, we’re not just investing in a new vessel.
“We’re investing in the whole customer journey, from our terminals and waterfront facilities to the experience passengers enjoy onboard.”
Paul McIntosh of Crosby Fresh added:
“We’re delighted to be bringing a fresh new offer to Discovery Café at Seacombe Ferry Terminal. Our focus is on serving quality, home-made food in a warm and welcoming environment where everyone feels at home.
“Whether it’s a quick coffee and bacon roll before the morning commute, a leisurely lunch following a stroll along the prom, or feeding the family after a morning spent exploring Eureka! Science + Discovery, our doors are now open and we look forward to welcoming customers old and new.”
Discovery Café To Also Cater New Royal Daffodil Ferry

The reopening follows the multi-million-pound refurbishment of Seacombe Ferry Terminal and its landing stage, completed in 2022, and comes as excitement continues to build ahead of the arrival of the Royal Daffodil.
The new vessel, the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years, has been designed in the historic Mersey Ferries red, white and black livery and will feature contemporary lounges, modern bars and spacious open-air decks offering panoramic views across the River Mersey.
Alongside its daily ferry services, the Royal Daffodil has been designed as a flexible events venue, capable of hosting conferences, corporate functions and private celebrations on the waterfront.
A virtual tour of the Royal Daffodil is available here.
