Following a successful UK debut last year, the Water Lantern Festival comes to Birkenhead Park this spring, transforming the space into a glowing celebration of community, reflection, and shared experience.
Co-produced by Water Lantern Festival and Fever, the world’s leading tech platform for discovering culture and live entertainment, this cultural and sensory event will be open to the public on 6 June.
The festival offers an enchanting open-air setting, where hundreds of floating lights transform the landscape as the sun sets over the lake.
Guests can enjoy live music, curated food options from local vendors, and recreational activities, all within an atmosphere designed for reflection and shared connection.
Those wishing to take part in the ritual can purchase a kit via Fever’s website or app, including all the materials needed to fully experience the occasion.
A Ritual of Introspection and Connection

The ritual is at the heart of the event, allowing attendees to write a personal message, whether a wish, a reflection or a note of gratitude, before setting the eco-friendly lanterns afloat on the water.
This symbolic act invites introspection and a sense of closure, all within a natural setting and without any negative impact on the environment.
Ben Taylor, Regional Manager at Fever, commented on the expansion of the event:
“We’re very excited to bring the Water Lantern Festival to Liverpool for the first time after such a successful debut last year.
“At Fever, our mission is to democratise access to culture and entertainment in real life, and this experience is a great example of how global traditions can be enjoyed locally.”
Bringing Global Traditions to a Local Setting

Designed for audiences of all ages, the Water Lantern Festival offers the chance to experience a unique international tradition without leaving the city.
Bringing together nature, reflection and community, it introduces a new cultural experience to be enjoyed with family and friends in Liverpool.
Seth Hewett, Event Director, highlighted the emotional impact of the festival:
“At its core, the Water Lantern Festival is about connection, both with yourself and with others.
“We’ve seen how powerful it can be to create space for reflection, and we’re excited to bring that experience to Liverpool in such a beautiful setting.”
The event serves as a standout addition to the spring calendar, providing a rare opportunity for local residents to participate in a shared sensory experience in one of the region’s most historic parks.
