Liverpool blues rock band The Heavy North have announced their return with the brand new single Heavy.
The track marks the first release from the Merseyside outfit since the 2024 live album Fire In The Furnace, which reached number two on the Official UK Jazz & Blues Album Chart, and provides the first glimpse of new material since their 2023 sophomore album Delta Shakedown.
Since forming in late 2018, the band has earned critical acclaim for their debut studio album, Electric Soul Machine and garnered attention from major outlets including BBC Radio 2, 6 Music, Radio X, and Classic Rock Magazine.
While the band has spent the last 12 months performing at iconic venues such as London’s 100 Club and Liverpool’s Cavern Club, this release ends a long wait for fans eager for new studio music.
Evolution of Sound and Line-up

The new track features the band’s trademark blend of rock, blues, and soul, built on a foundation of pounding drums and fuzzed-up keys.
It also showcases recent line-up changes, most notably the arrival of bass player George Favager, who locks in with drummer Mark Rice to anchor the rhythm section.
While keyboard player Ste Penn stepped back from the band in late 2024, his performances are still featured on this latest recording.
Heavy was recorded at 3rd Planet Recording Studio in Granada, Spain, during the Spring of 2025.
The studio is the home of the band’s guitarist and producer, Jose Ibanez.
The track also features long-term collaborators Molly Fryo and Rosalie Galvin providing backing vocals.
A Reassuring Return to Form
Clocking in at just over four minutes, the single serves as a firm reminder of the band’s studio prowess.
Frontman Kenny Stuart’s powerhouse vocals are complemented by the screeching slide guitar of Jack Birch, adding a fresh high-end layer to the band’s established sound.
The Heavy North have consistently delivered high-energy performances on stages across the UK and beyond, and Heavy translates that live energy back into the studio environment.
The six-piece outfit continues to build on the momentum that saw their previous work climb the Official UK Independent Album Chart.
The new single Heavy is available on all download and streaming platforms from Friday, 1 May. Fans can find more information and access pre-save links here.
