Springfield Park has been recognised as one of the country’s best green spaces after receiving a prestigious Green Flag Award.
The international quality mark recognises parks that are welcoming, safe, well-maintained and managed to high environmental standards, while delivering benefits for the communities they serve.

Located at the heart of Alder Hey Children’s Health Campus, Springfield Park is open to everyone and provides an accessible space to relax, exercise, play, and connect with nature.
John Grinnell, Chief Executive of Alder Hey, said:
“We’re incredibly proud that Springfield Park has been recognised with a Green Flag Award. The park is an important part of the healing environment we provide for children, young people and families, while also offering a fantastic green space for our local community. This award is also a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in caring for and developing the park, and a special thank you to Friends of Springfield Park, Liverpool City Council and everyone in the community for helping create this amazing space.”
The park features walking routes, children’s play areas, open grassland, woodland, wetlands and wildlife habitats, offering opportunities for exploration and outdoor activity throughout the year.
Its Green Flag status reflects an ongoing commitment to maintaining the park as a clean, safe and welcoming environment, while protecting and enhancing its natural habitats for future generations.
Parks applying for the award are assessed against a wide range of criteria, including environmental management, biodiversity, accessibility, maintenance, safety and community involvement.
The achievement also recognises the dedication of the organisations, volunteers and residents involved in caring for and developing the park.

Alder Hey thanked Friends of Springfield Park, Liverpool City Council and members of the local community for helping to create and maintain the space.
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and is regarded as the benchmark for quality parks and green spaces across the UK and internationally.
More than 2,000 parks and green spaces now proudly fly the Green Flag.
