Exciting changes are coming to a much-loved local green space as the next phase of transformation work gets underway in the community.
Following the demolition of the former National Wildflower Centre, Knowsley Council has officially appointed contractors to deliver a major landscape improvement project right within the heart of the park.
The extensive works will include fresh landscaping, pond improvement works, and the surfacing of a brand new public realm area between the Court Yard and the Sunken Rose Garden.
Local community groups will also benefit from the project, with a new boundary fencing and entrance being created specifically for the incredible volunteers at Incredible Edible Knowsley CIC.
The project will also see the re-siting of the Friends of Court Hey containers within the Forest School Area, alongside new boundary fencing and a dedicated entrance for the Forest School Area itself.
Pedestrians will find it much easier to explore the space thanks to the removal of the former Millennium Building gates, opening the new area into the park and creating improved pedestrian access from the Court Yard and Cricket Pavilion through to the Sunken Rose Garden and the park beyond.
Visitors will notice an enhanced look from the moment they arrive, with improvements planned for the main park entrance at Glynn Grove alongside the replacement of all knee-high timber fencing within the park grounds.
The works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 15 June 2026, and are expected to be fully completed by the end of August.
To ensure that major local celebrations are not disrupted, there will be a planned break in construction over the weekend of the Feelgood Festival and the Knowsley Flower Show, which takes place on 1 and 2 August 2026.
The upgrades are a key part of the council’s ambitious plans for its parks and green spaces, following the development of a masterplan for Court Hey Park, which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund back in 2023.
A Vibrant Community Hub with a Rich Local Heritage
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“I’m delighted to see the next phase of improvement works at Court Hey Park progress.
“It’s a place full of rich history and heritage, and a great community hub for meeting up.
“We want to ensure that it provides the very best facilities for our communities, and I’m delighted that our masterplan is progressing to the next phase of works.”
The park has long served as a vital focal point for families, walkers, and environmental groups across the borough.
Investing in the physical infrastructure ensures that the historical site remains safe, accessible, and welcoming for future generations to enjoy.
By collaborating directly with on-site community organisations, the development helps strengthen the network of volunteers who keep the space thriving.
Future Plans for the Local Play Area Expansion
In addition to these imminent landscaping works, the council and the dedicated Friends of Court Hey Park are currently working together to secure funding to deliver a play improvement plan for the main play area within the park.
This upcoming venture follows the successful installation of the popular new play train earlier this year.
Further details regarding the playground designs and funding milestones will be shared with the public as the project progresses.
