Chick-fil-A has announced a long-term partnership with Liverpool charity Opening Doors Project ahead of the opening of its new Lord Street restaurant on Thursday, 27 August.

Shared Table is designed to connect surplus food from Chick-fil-A restaurants with charities and community organisations supporting people experiencing food insecurity.

Team Members at the new Liverpool restaurant will regularly prepare and package surplus food, which will then be collected and distributed by Opening Doors Project to people who need it.

The £25,000 donation will support the charity’s work to tackle food insecurity, loneliness and social isolation in Liverpool.

Joanna Symonds, Head of U.K. Operations at Chick-fil-A, said:

“At Chick-fil-A, we believe being part of a community means finding meaningful ways to give back. As we celebrate the Chick-fil-A restaurant opening in Liverpool, we’re excited for the launch of the Chick-fil-A Shared Table programme as part of our commitment to making a positive impact locally. We’re proud to support local Owner-Operator David Pritchard as he partners with the Opening Doors Project to help extend the reach of surplus food to those who can benefit from it most. David’s passion for Liverpool is evident, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to support efforts that will make a meaningful difference across the community.”

Opening Doors Project combines practical assistance with opportunities for people to connect with others and access wellbeing and family support.

Its Community Food Hub provides free meals in a welcoming environment, while its Mindful Hub offers a safe space where people can meet others, access support and take part in activities aimed at improving wellbeing and reducing isolation.

Leslie Hughes, Chair of Trustees at Opening Doors Project, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Chick-fil-A as part of its Shared Table programme. This partnership will help us provide more nutritious meals to people and families in our community who are facing hardship, while also reducing food waste in a meaningful way. At Opening Doors Project, we believe that food is about much more than nourishment – it’s an opportunity to bring people together, build connections and offer hope. We are grateful to Chick-fil-A and Neighbourly for their support and look forward to working together to make a lasting difference for the people we serve across Liverpool.”

The Liverpool partnership forms part of the wider Chick-fil-A Shared Table programme, which is already operating at more than 2,700 Chick-fil-A restaurants in the United States, as well as the company’s UK restaurants in Belfast, Leeds and Kingston.

According to Chick-fil-A, the programme has helped provide more than 50 million meals across the US, UK, Canada, Puerto Rico and Singapore.

The Liverpool partnership is being supported by Neighbourly, an organisation which connects businesses with charities, food banks and community groups across the UK and Ireland.

Chick-fil-A’s new Liverpool restaurant is due to open on Lord Street on Thursday, 27 August, as the company continues its expansion in the UK.

The Liverpool site follows openings in Leeds and Kingston and will be led by local Owner-Operator David Pritchard.

Chick-fil-A is known for its Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich alongside grilled chicken options, salads, hand-squeezed lemonade and milkshakes.
