It is becoming the must-visit film location, adding to the list of things this fabulous city is already famous for, as actors and directors simply cannot get enough.
Films such as The Batman, Captain America: The First Avenger and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 have been shot in Liverpool over the years, as well as series such as Peaky Blinders, The Crown, and This City is Ours.

Unsurprisingly, the fabulous St George’s Hall that sits in the heart of the city has been used on several occasions.
It opened way back in 1854 and has been an iconic figure in Liverpool ever since, as it is now used for holding concerts and other events as well as being a wedding venue.
The building has been used in plenty of films and series, most notably in The Batman, as the exterior was used as Gotham City Hall.
Various scenes were shot in the BBC series Peaky Blinders, whilst it also doubled up as a backdrop of 1940’s New York in Captain America: The First Avenger.
The Queensway Tunnel

The historic underwater tunnel that connects Liverpool to Birkenhead has appeared plenty of times in film.
The tunnel was a unique piece of architecture back when it opened in 1934, as it was the longest road tunnel in the world.
Now the longest in the UK, it has been used in the Fast and Furious film franchise to film a car chase.
The tunnel was also used to film a scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 back in 2009.
Royal Albert Dock Liverpool

With the largest collection of Grade 1-listed buildings in the country and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Albert Dock is one of the most famous parts of Liverpool.
It was prominently used in the thirteenth series of Doctor Who with the TARDIS spacecraft machine spotted in nighttime shots.
Once again, Peaky Blinders and The Batman made the most out of Liverpool for scenes in the movie as they used the Albert Dock, which was transformed into Gotham City.
World-renowned series such as Netflix favourite Top Boy and Silent Witness have also used the Albert Dock.
The Three Graces

The beautiful skyline of Liverpool, which boasts the Cunard Building, the Port of Liverpool Building and the Royal Liver Building, has been a staple of the city since the early 1900’s.
The striking buildings have stood tall for over a hundred years, and due to their picturesque nature, have obviously been suitable for films and series.
The iconic buildings were seen in The Crown as they recreated 1960’s Washington, D.C.
The Royal Liver Building was a massive feature in the Batman film, as it was acting as the Gotham City Police Department headquarters.
Scenes were also filmed that pictured Batman standing on and dramatically diving from the building during a dramatic escape.
In Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the Three Graces and surrounding areas were used as filming locations to represent Moscow.
The area directly in front of the Cunard Building served as a key location near the Kremlin in the movie.
Water Street & Castle Street

Going back and taking a big step in history, Water Street and Castle Street were two of the seven streets in medieval Liverpool in 1207.
The streets are renowned for their historic, architecture-rich, and financial heritage, whilst Water Street connect Liverpool to the River Mersey.
They have frequently doubled for New York, London, or Moscow in major productions like The Batman and The Crown, as they really made sure to use as much of the city as possible.
In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Water Street’s grand architecture was used to recreate the bustling atmosphere of 1920s New York City.
Similarly, Florence Foster Jenkins utilised the same street to double as 1940s Manhattan, providing a perfect backdrop for Meryl Streep’s fabulous performance.
Knowsley Hall

Stepping outside of the city centre, there are still plenty more famous places that have been outstanding enough to use for film.
Knowsley Hall, which is famous for being the ancestral home of the Earls of Derby since 1385, has been seen in films and series several times.
The 2,500-acre estate is more than big enough and preserves natural beauty all around.
Peaky Blinders famously used plenty of interior shots for series six, and most notably the State Dining Room.
A Gentleman in Moscow transformed the opulent interiors of Knowsley Hall into the grand, aristocratic settings of Soviet-era Russia to tell the story of Count Alexander Rostov’s house arrest.
The estate’s versatile grounds and historic rooms have also served as a backdrop for the chaotic comedy of Brassic as well as the long-running dramas of Hollyoaks and Coronation Street, with special events such as weddings shot there.
Croxteth Hall

Set in Croxteth Country Park, the imperious building that is Croxteth Hall has been surrounded by the greenery since 1575.

Open to the public, the interior of the building holds a real sense of authenticity, and due to that, the stylish interior has been pictured in several films and series.
Most recently, the main staircase, servants’ hall, and old dining room were seen in the House of Guiness series.
The blend of Tudor and Edwardian architecture has made it a premier location for period dramas.
It has famously featured in high-stakes scenes for Peaky Blinders and the BBC’s The War of the Worlds.
The estate’s grand interiors and sprawling parklands have also provided the backdrop for a variety of productions, including modern favourite The Ipcress File.
