Morrisons opening date in Kirkby Town Centre confirmed

  • October 13, 2021
  • Editor

The doors to the new superstore Morrisons located in Kirkby Town Centre will be opened at 7.00am on Thursday 21 October 2021.

The store will be open between 7.00am and 10.00pm Monday to Saturday and from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Sundays.

Morrisons is located on Irlam Drive in Kirkby Town Centre.  Nearby are a Morrisons petrol station (which opened Thursday 7 October), along with KFC and Taco Bell restaurants, both of which opened their doors this summer.  A new Home Bargains store is also set to open over the coming months.

As part of Knowsley Council’s further development plans for Kirkby, construction of a multi-a screen cinema and three food and drink outlets is due to commence at the end of the year.

Local residents are already benefiting from the new town centre retail development in Kirkby Town Centre by securing employment opportunities.

Earlier this summer KFC became the first unit to open in the new development, with 64% of the new jobs created being filled by local residents. Taco Bell also opened this week with 96% of roles being filled by Kirkby residents.

The supermarket established a recruitment hub in the town centre, with the Council’s Knowsley Works team offering support to residents with applications and interview preparation. You can see the current list of vacancies for the Kirkby store on the Morrisons jobs website.

Councillor Graham Morgan, the Leader of Knowsley Council, said:

“I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved in such a short space of time.  It’s been less than two years since we took ownership of Kirkby Town Centre and started the construction of the new retail development – bearing in mind we’ve had a pandemic to contend with too!

“I’m delighted to be able to share the Morrisons opening date – something we have all been waiting for.”

Edward Pritchard, Store Manager at Morrisons Kirkby said:

“The community is a huge part of who we are and what we do at Morrisons.  We are committed to recruiting as many local people from Kirkby and the surrounding area as possible to ensure our new store is at the heart of the local community”.
