Students from Liverpool Theatre School are celebrating after showcasing their talent on a national stage at one of the UK’s biggest dance conventions, The Super Weekender, held at Birmingham’s NEC over the weekend (15–16 November).
A group of the school’s rising stars delivered a series of high-energy, show-stopping routines, featuring brand-new choreography and an impressive mix of styles from commercial to contemporary. Their performances drew huge applause from audiences and earned them national recognition, further underlining the calibre of talent being developed at the city’s well-respected performing arts school.
Alongside the competition, students took part in workshops and masterclasses led by some of the industry’s leading choreographers and creatives, including those who have worked with international artists and global brands. Liverpool Theatre School’s own dance tutors and choreographers, Dane Bates and Alex Ryan, were among the professionals invited to teach at the event, which attracts more than 15,000 visitors each year.
Maxine Ellis, Principal at Liverpool Theatre School, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of our students and the hard work they’ve put into preparing for The Super Weekender. Performing at such a high-profile event gives them invaluable experience and the chance to showcase their skills on a national stage. It’s fantastic to see to our students flying the flag for Liverpool’s performing arts scene.”
Lilliana Clifton, a first year dance student at Liverpool Theatre School, said:
“The Super Weekender was such a brilliant experience! It was amazing to perform in front of so many people and to learn from some of the top choreographers in the industry.”
