Bank View School is celebrating the achievements of two valued members of its community who have received prestigious national recognition for their outstanding contributions to education and support for people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Governor Bob Davies was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in January in recognition of his exceptional services to children and adults with SEND.
The school’s Vice Principal, Claire Pattison, has also been presented with a Silver Award at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Mr Davies has dedicated more than 25 years to being a governor across two special schools and has also made a significant impact within the local community.
His role as a leader and volunteer at the ‘Thursday Club’ has provided vital social opportunities and support for adults with SEND, transforming lives through his longstanding commitment and compassion.
Claire has been awarded a Silver Award in the Pearson National Teaching Awards Lifetime Achievement category today (Wednesday 17 June) in a school assembly by Sean Catford, Pearson’s National Director of Sales.
She will now be considered for the Gold Award, with the national awards ceremony taking place in London in November, where the Gold Award winners will be announced.
The Silver Award accolade reflects Ms Pattison’s remarkable 36-year career in education and her unwavering dedication to supporting students, families, and colleagues.
As a key member of the school’s leadership team, Ms Pattison has played an integral role in shaping the school community.
Her expertise, passion and commitment have had a lasting and positive impact on the lives of countless young people. Following this achievement, she will now be considered for the prestigious Gold Award.
Both honours highlight the exceptional commitment, leadership and dedication demonstrated by Mr Davies and Ms Pattison. Staff, governors, families, and partners across Bank View School have expressed their pride in seeing their contributions recognised at a national level.

“Bob’s unwavering dedication to supporting children and adults with SEND over many years has made a profound and lasting difference, both within our school and across the wider community.
“His selfless service and passion for inclusion continue to inspire everyone who works with him.
“Claire’s achievement is equally inspiring.
“Her exceptional career, passion for inclusive education and tireless support for our students, families and staff have helped shape the positive, nurturing environment we are so proud of today.
“She is not only a highly respected leader, but also a role model to colleagues and a champion for every young person in our care.”
The simultaneous accolades highlight the high standard of specialist education being delivered within the local authority area, reinforcing the city’s reputation for inclusive learning.
By fostering a supportive network that bridges the gap between classroom teaching and community outreach, the facility continues to set a benchmark for regional special school provisions.
