In our latest edition of highlighting the people of Liverpool, we are focusing on the content creators of Merseyside.
No matter how large a following you have, we at Explore Liverpool are sharing the stories of the many content creators around Merseyside.
In our first edition of the series, we spoke to Iwan Steffan, 36, who posts on TikTok with over 300,000 followers.
What content do you post, and when did you start?
My main content is paranormal content and spooky stories about Liverpool. I also do film reviews and vlogs about my life, but everyone knows me for the spooky stories! I have been posting since lockdown.
How did your first-ever video go, and how did you feel?
I have always loved the paranormal, and I remember posting my first-ever ghost story, and I had no followers. My first video was a ghost story about a lady on Smithdown Road. I woke up the next day, and my video had 325,000 views! I knew then that I had found my niche.
What bit of advice would you give someone who wants to showcase themselves on social media?
You have to be ready for that world, so be prepared to be judged in whatever you do. In terms of advice, if you’re different, you’ll go to different places. Be original. Do something nobody has ever done.
How has being from Liverpool shaped your content creation?
So I’m actually Welsh, and I’ve lived in Liverpool for almost 18 years. My content includes a lot of history about Liverpool. I’ve learnt so much just from making the videos! Liverpool is like a main character in my work. What a blessing!
What has been your favourite encounter in Liverpool whilst doing your content?
I would say Eurovision. I was invited to the live shows and got to go on the blue carpet, and I met all the artists. That was a huge deal for me. It was the busiest week of my life, but so surreal that this was going on in Liverpool! It was incredible!
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
My personal biggest achievement is always going to be the fact that I moved to Liverpool with nothing and built a life for myself. In terms of influencer work, it’s got to be going to film premieres. They’re always a pinch-me moment. I was at the Terrifier premiere and Scream 7 premiere.
Your personal pinch-me moment during your journey?
There have been many. Probably the Eurovision launch party where Rylan was there, Louis Walsh, Atomic Kitten and we were all dancing together. It was crazy!
Why should people watch your content?
My content isn’t for the faint-hearted. I aim to make the viewer feel as uncomfortable as possible. If you like horror and history, come and watch if you dare!
What is your dream for the future?
I have already gained my own TV show, a paranormal one, from TikTok. I have done two series now, and that was my goal. It’s on BBC iPlayer and S4C. In future, I’d like to do more TV work.
