Wicked Women: Celebrating extraordinary women who changed the world

  • February 11, 2020
  • Editor

Tmesis Theatre are marking International Women’s Day 2020 with a programme of performance and conversation across Merseyside this March.

At Unity Theatre on 11th March, the award winning Liverpool theatre company will celebrate extraordinary women from history that changed the world in ‘Wicked Women’, a moving and uplifting physical performance exploring the lives of known and unknown heroines from Elizabeth I to Malala Yousafzai.

Earlier on in the day, also at the Unity, Tmesis will continue to facilitate conversation for women and girls in the arts, launching their ‘Born at Devoted & Disgruntled’ conversations. The conversations – and performances – are however open to all genders with everyone encouraged to take part.

Connecting with the global theme for International Women’s Day 2020, the topic being discussed will be “How do we build a gender balanced world in the arts, challenge stereotypes, broaden perceptions, change situations?”

Audiences outside Liverpool will also be able to catch ‘Wicked Women’ and the ‘Born at Devoted & Disgruntled’ conversations when Tmesis bring the events to Edge Hill University’s Arts Centre on 4th March and The Studio in Widnes on 8th March.

Tmesis Theatre create, share and develop extraordinary physical theatre through touring, participation and an international festival – Physical Fest. The Liverpool-based group make playful and passionate theatre that explores what it is to be human.

Since 2003 the company has performed across the UK and internationally in Ireland, Zambia, Croatia, France, Italy, Germany, Greece and New York, winning the award for ‘Best Choreography’ for Wolf Red in 2016 at the United Solo Festival, New York.
