Wirral Council is set to host the latest edition of its popular Youth Markets in the run-up to Christmas. The festive event will take place in the covered outdoor space at Birkenhead Market on Saturday, 13 December, from 10am to 4pm.
Young entrepreneurs aged under 30 are invited to apply for a free pitch, which includes tables and chairs under a stylish gazebo. The Youth Market offers a unique opportunity to showcase products and services, or even test out a new business idea in front of a large and engaged audience.
The event is also calling for performers, including musicians, bands, dance groups, and choirs, who would like to take to the market stage and share their talent.
Previous Youth Markets have been held in Liscard, New Brighton, West Kirby, and Birkenhead, featuring scores of young businesses and attracting more than 20,000 visitors across the events.
Funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), these markets have proven to be an effective way for young people to launch and grow new ventures. Several former stallholders, including Jelley Bakes and The Possible Kitchen, have gone on to build successful businesses and have even been nominated for National Market Traders Federation awards.
Young traders and performers interested in taking part are encouraged to apply early to secure their place at this festive showcase of talent and enterprise.
The Leader of Wirral Council, Councillor Paula Basnett, said:
“Our Youth Markets have been incredibly successful, showcasing the talent and business acumen of our young entrepreneurs while also giving some of our town centres a real boost.
I hope we will see yet more young people joining in with this latest event, as well as others returning, and lots of shoppers supporting them and other local businesses.”
Cllr Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and trade, said:
“Our city region is famous for its entrepreneurial spirit and innovative ideas and events like this give young traders the opportunity to showcase their products and ideas to a wider audience. I’d encourage any young traders on the Wirral to apply for a pitch at this latest youth market – you never know where it might lead!”
