The Wheelbarrow draws summer crowds to South Liverpool garden terrace

A South Liverpool café and bistro near Sefton Park is proving increasingly popular with diners and groups looking to make the most of the summer weather.

The Wheelbarrow, on Greenbank Lane, has developed from a neighbourhood café into an all-day hospitality venue, offering breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, artisan bakery products and space for private events.

One of its main attractions during the warmer months is its enclosed south-facing garden terrace, where customers can enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea outdoors.

The venue can accommodate around 90 guests indoors and up to 125 people for private events, and has become a popular setting for baby showers, birthdays, christenings, networking events, workshops and family celebrations.

The Wheelbarrow is also home to Frankley’s Bakery, which produces handcrafted breads, pastries and cakes each day.

The bakery supplies both The Wheelbarrow and its sister venue, The Watering Can, while its products are also sold through a mobile bakery trailer which operates around Sefton Park.

Breakfast options at The Wheelbarrow include Full English and vegetarian breakfasts, Shakshuka, Very Berry Waffles and a selection of lighter seasonal dishes, with breads produced fresh by Frankley’s Bakery.

Its lunch menu includes a Posh Fish Finger Sandwich served on toasted brioche, Mediterranean wraps, Croque Monsieur, Chicken Caesar Salad, traditional fish and chips and seasonal dishes.

Afternoon tea has also become an increasingly popular part of the venue’s offering.

It includes finger sandwiches, homemade scones served with Champagne strawberry jam and clotted cream, sweet treats produced by Frankley’s Bakery and a choice of speciality tea or coffee.

Keith Perryman, owner of The Wheelbarrow, said:

“The Wheelbarrow has always been about creating somewhere people genuinely enjoy spending time. Whether guests are joining us for breakfast in the sunshine, lunch in the garden, afternoon tea with friends or celebrating a special occasion, we want every visit to feel relaxed, welcoming and memorable.

Our south-facing terrace really comes into its own during the summer months. It’s one of those hidden spaces where people can switch off for a few hours, enjoy fantastic food and make the most of the sunshine. Combined with Frankley’s Bakery, our all-day menus and our growing events business, we’re delighted that more and more people are discovering everything The Wheelbarrow has to offer.”

The venue also offers menus for corporate functions and private celebrations, alongside free parking and access to its outdoor spaces.

With its combination of all-day dining, artisan baking, afternoon tea and event space, The Wheelbarrow has established itself as a versatile hospitality destination close to one of Liverpool’s best-known parks.
