Liverpool’s popular café bistro, The Watering Can, is celebrating a major milestone after being named the Taste of Liverpool City Region Café of the Year.
The victory was announced during a prestigious ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral, hosted by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Kevin Duala.
This latest accolade marks a hat-trick for the Greenbank Park venue, which has consistently been recognised for excellence in hospitality since opening nearly seven years ago.
Reflecting on the achievement, owner Keith Perryman said:
“Winning Café of the Year 2025 at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards means so much to myself and the team.
“It is a tribute to our teams, past, present and future. Every person who has ever worked a shift, poured a coffee, washed a plate, opened early, stayed late, or helped shape what The Watering Can into what it is today has played a part in this.
“Places like ours are never built by one person, they are built by people who care!”
Navigating Industry Challenges and Celebrating Resilience

The award comes at a time when the hospitality sector continues to face significant economic pressure.
The Watering Can previously secured the LCR Hidden Gem Award in 2021 and Café Bistro of the Year in 2023, alongside several runner-up positions in 2022 and 2024.
This consistent track record highlights the venue’s ability to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape while maintaining high standards for its local and visiting customers.
Keith Perryman highlighted the difficulties facing the trade, stating:
“Since Covid especially, the pace of change has been relentless.
“Adapting constantly, navigating rising costs, staffing challenges and changing customer habits is exhausting, all while trying to stay true to your customers and to yourself.
“Hospitality as an industry is still facing a very real crisis, which makes moments like this feel even more meaningful.”
A Benchmark for Quality in the City Region

The Watering Can’s success was shared with a wider community of high-achieving businesses across the region.
In a show of support for the local industry, Keith Perryman added:
“We would also like to congratulate the other finalists.
“Being recognised alongside so many brilliant venues across the region is a reminder of how much talent, resilience and creativity exists in our industry.”
As the bistro prepares to celebrate its seventh anniversary this April, this latest win reinforces its reputation as a premier destination for quality food and warm hospitality.
By securing the Café of the Year title, The Watering Can has cemented its place as a vital contributor to the Liverpool City Region’s thriving leisure and tourism sector, proving that passion and community focus remain at the heart of its enduring popularity.
