St. Joseph’s Hospice opens new charity shop in Aigburth

St. Joseph’s Hospice has opened a brand new charity shop on Aigburth Road in Liverpool.

Special guest, John Power (89), whose wife Alice was a patient at the hospice for almost four years, was invited to cut the ribbon and officially to open the new shop on Wednesday (28 June), along with hospice nurse, Tracy McKenna.

The shop, at 148 Aigburth Road, has been fully refurbished and stylishly decorated to appeal to the local community, with character features, such as wooden floors, papered feature walls and bespoke shop fittings.

Whilst the shop is a traditional charity shop, selling clothes, accessories, bric a brac, books and media, the hospice’s head of retail, Jo Rigby-Clare, has plans to develop a department specialising in vintage clothing and vinyl.

Jo said:

“Aigburth is a beautiful area of Liverpool. With a bustling, bohemian social scene, the area caters for all, from the more affluent shoppers to its large student population. We wanted to create a charity shop in Aigburth that was a little different and appealed to its diverse community and I am very proud of what we have created.

“It has been an absolute joy to launch this shop and it has already generated a lot of interest as we have been refurbishing it. We’ve had some wonderful comments from local people and other businesses nearby, who have all been really excited to see what we have done with the shop.”

John Power, from Litherland said:

“I am honoured and a very proud to open the hospice’s new charity shop in Aigburth and I would like to dedicated this to my lovely wife Alice and the memory of Father O’Leary who founded St. Joseph’s Hospice.”

Hospice nurse, Tracy McKenna added:

“It was an honour and a privilege to represent the hospice at the opening of the new shop. The hospice staff do an amazing job, not only caring for patients but caring for families like John and his daughter Donna too.”
