Song Contest raises over £4,000 for The Whitechapel Centre

Primal Live’s huge battle of the bands style event at Camp & Furnace on Saturday, July 20th, saw 25 talented artists perform on stage and compete for top prizes. The song contest has raised over £4,000 for The Whitechapel Centre to help support their work helping the Liverpool homeless.

The audience was blown away by the level of talent on display as 5 heats featuring 5 artists had the winner going on to a final heat. The power of the event is made stronger by many of the performing artists, including Danielle Kasek and Jordan Francis (OTB), who have personally experienced hardships including homelessness and addiction.

After interactive audience voting, the 5 finalists were Ava Fitz, Imogen Burton, JP Cumberlidge, Noa Marie and Sam Roberts. It was then down to the expert judges, The Voice UK’s Jake O’Neill and SAE Institute’s Duncan Lewis, to choose the best song of the night and best performance of the night.

In what was a very difficult decision, the incredible 15-year-old Ava Fitz won both prizes, with an additional prize awarded to rapper OTB, whose rap about homelessness was both powerful and profound.

Courtesy of SAE Institute’s Music Business Lecturer Duncan Lewis, Ava won recording time at the SAE Institute and both Ava and OTB won a place on Duncan’s The Songwriters Retreat, where they will work with multi-award winning songwriters in stunning locations.

Primal Live’s Organiser Andy Sampson said:

“The event was a huge success — combining top quality acts and giving them a platform with raising money for an important cause. We’re so proud of everyone who took part and made it such a success — each and every one of them are stars! Thank you to the judges, compere Liam Bretherton and the venue — notably Duncan Lewis and SAE Institute who supplied the amazing prizes!”

“We’re delighted with the success of the event and the feedback has been fantastic! To raise over £4,000 for the homeless through the power of music is a great achievement and we’re already planning our next event — any musicians who want to enter can contact us now. We want to make Primal Live a regular event in Liverpool.”

Andy Sampson and the team at Primal Events and Premier White Collar Boxing have organised countless corporate and charity boxing events over the years, raising millions for good causes over the many years of events. The Primal Live song contest is another string to their bow, utilising the power of music to raise money for an important local cause.
