Smoke & Dough, the award-winning Liverpool ONE independent, has helped raise over £4,500 for the Roots Foundation in July. The restaurant is famed for its bottomless BBQ offering and had members of staff raise money through running, biking, and swimming for the Foundation.
The Roots Foundation was established in July 2020 as an initiative by DigitalPlus24x7. The foundation was set up to support girl child education in villages of India and the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom. Since its formation, the charity has raised over £12,500 for causes in the UK and abroad.
In July, Co-Founder Sachin Bajpai and members of the Smoke & Dough team helped raise a grand total of £4,562 for the foundation through sponsored physical activities. Their collective efforts helped fund girl child education in the hill state of Uttarakhand, India, and the NHS in the UK, a great achievement that epitomizes the ethos of the restaurant.
The restaurant has received praise for its charity endeavours and inclusive approach to employment. Since its opening in 2018, Smoke & Dough has garnered over 1000 5-star reviews, secured a Travellers Choice Award from Tripadvisor, and won the Best Restaurant Of 2023 award from La Vida Liverpool readers.
General Manager, Raj said:
“I’m super proud of our team members who got involved in the challenge. Charity and kindness is something we instil into all of our staff and this attitude has also resulted in providing exceptional service to our customers. I am a keen athlete myself, so do try to encourage our staff to try to live active and healthy lifestyles.”
“This challenge was particularly special as it combined fitness with charity. As well as our team members getting involved, 54 champions from 15 locations and 5 countries took part — with the youngest participant being 4 years old and the senior 66 years of age. It was a great team effort for our Foundation.”
One of the earliest initiatives for Sachin’s Roots Foundation was sponsoring a little girl, Arushi and her brother, covering all her expenses for a year, including enrolling her in a formal school. The same year also saw the efforts to support Nottingham University Hospital’s Stroke Specialty department, wherein funds were provided for the rehabilitation centre of the department for their multi-disciplinary team.
In 2021, Roots Foundation provided financial assistance to Anjali, enabling her to pursue her MBA studies. In 2022, the foundation focused on the renovation of Chaukhambha Junior High School in Ukhimath, Uttarakhand, India.
In 2023, it expanded its reach to more remote areas, continuing to support girl child education in Uttarakhand. Its efforts included supporting the local community and Chaukhambha Junior High School further and transforming the complete redevelopment and renovation of the entire school, ensuring that students had access to quality education and infrastructure.
Also in November 2023, during its 4th birthday, Smoke & Dough supported local children’s charity Ykids and raised £550.
This latest campaign has benefitted both girl child education in the hill state of Uttarakhand, India, and the NHS in the UK. Following the success of this challenge, the ethical Liverpool independent restaurant has plans to engage in more fundraising activities for Roots Foundation going forward.
