A major new sporting facility could soon be coming to Liverpool, with plans now submitted for a state-of-the-art Padel Tennis centre at Wavertree Sports Park.
The proposals, submitted by Pegasus Group on behalf of Padel FC, follow a successful tender process with Liverpool City Council. If approved, the scheme will transform underused tennis courts into a modern, sustainable complex featuring nine padel courts, six indoors and three sheltered outdoor, alongside a café, retail space, changing rooms and dedicated social areas.

Designed by Octo Architects, the new venue will champion sustainability, incorporating solar panels, air source heating and EV charging points, aligning with Liverpool’s net zero ambitions.
Padel FC was founded by Jurgen and Marc Klopp, with partners including Mike Smith (Open Media), retired professional footballer Bradley Orr, and local businessman Carl Spellman. Having already launched a successful venue in Berlin, the team has chosen Liverpool for their first UK site, with a vision of making padel more inclusive, accessible, and community-focused.

Community support for the project has been overwhelming, with 98% of respondents backing the proposals during two stages of consultation. The facility has also benefited from positive pre-application discussions with Liverpool City Council to ensure it meets local needs and policy objectives.
To strengthen the planning submission, Pegasus Group has prepared a Health and Wellbeing Statement, an Employment and Skills Strategy, and an Economic and Social Value Infographic, highlighting the centre’s wider benefits, from job creation and training opportunities to improved health outcomes and community wellbeing.

If approved, the Wavertree facility would represent a major investment in Liverpool’s sporting infrastructure and further strengthen the city’s reputation as a world-class sporting destination.
Speaking about the project, Darren Muir, Director at Pegasus Group, said:
“We have really enjoyed working with Padel FC to bring one of Europe’s fastest-growing sports to Liverpool. From advising on the tender process, to leading the pre-application engagement and preparation of the planning submission, it has been rewarding to help shape a scheme that makes efficient use of underutilised land while delivering genuine social, economic and environmental benefits for the city.”
If approved, the Padel FC Liverpool facility will open seven days a week and provide a year-round, all-weather sporting destination for players of all ages and abilities.
