M&S Bank Arena Liverpool has been awarded the prestigious ‘Greener Arena 2025 – Highly Commended’ certification, recognising its position as one of the UK’s leading sustainable event venues.
The accolade, granted by A Greener Future – an internationally respected non-profit championing environmental responsibility in the live events sector – highlights the arena’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact and driving positive change across the industry.

A Greener Future’s rigorous Greener Arena accreditation examines everything from carbon emissions and waste reduction to accessibility, biodiversity protection and community engagement. To achieve the Highly Commended standard, venues must demonstrate not only strong sustainability practices, but a clear strategy that consistently delivers improvements year after year.
For M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, part of the ACC Liverpool Group, the recognition reflects years of purposeful work to embed sustainability at every level of its operations. From responsible resource management and greener energy use to protecting the surrounding environment and investing in community-focused initiatives, the arena continues to push the bar higher for what modern, world-class venues can achieve.
The certification sends a clear message: large-scale live events can be delivered in a way that is both memorable and environmentally responsible. It also reinforces the arena’s wider ambition to champion long-term sustainability across Liverpool’s event and visitor economy.
Claire O’Neill, CEO & Co Founder of A Greener Future, said:
“Venues undergo a rigorous assessment process to be certified as a Greener Arena by AGF. To achieve Highly Commended in their first year of application really is testament to their tenacity, and the importance M&S Bank Arena place upon sustainability. Congratulations, and hats off to the whole team in Liverpool.”
The announcement coincided with Expedition Two, hosted at ACC Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Accelerator City. Building on the success of Expedition One and Act 1.5 Presents at the M&S Bank Arena last November, Expedition Two brought together start-ups, scale-ups and innovators to explore new ideas to support sustainable business growth.
The initiative also aligns with Liverpool’s recognition as the UN’s first Accelerator City for Climate Action, reinforcing the city as a global leader in sustainable innovation and climate-focused business development.
Eddie Dos Santos, Director of Operations and Venue Management at the ACC Liverpool Group, said:
“Receiving the ‘Highly Commended’ Greener Arena 2025 accreditation from A Greener Future is a huge milestone for us. It recognises the hard work our teams have put into embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations—from energy and waste management to community engagement and environmental protection. This accreditation not only validates our approach but also keeps us on track to achieve carbon net zero by 2030, setting a benchmark well ahead of industry standards. We’re proud to demonstrate that live events and sustainability can go hand in hand, and we hope it inspires others in the sector to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
