Liverpool is about to host a giant game of The Elf on the Shelf this December and it promises to sprinkle plenty of festive cheer across the city.
Standing at an impressive 15ft tall, the brand-new 2025 Elf will make appearances at famous Liverpool landmarks from 1 December through to Christmas Eve, bringing magic, mischief and plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

Organised by Liverpool BID Company, the Elf will move secretly under the cover of night, spending a few days in each location so families have plenty of time to join in the fun. Alongside the Elf’s appearances, there’ll be free family entertainment, performances and giveaways at each stop.
Katie Bentley is Liverpool BID Company’s Director of Strategic Partnerships and Communication, said:
“We loved how welcome Liverpool made The Elf on the Shelf last Christmas. This Christmas, we want to make it a little more theatrical and give people a greater chance to grab their Elfies and send those last few letters to Santa.”
The festive trail begins at The Plaza on 1 December, before heading to The Everyman Theatre on Hope Street, Liverpool Waters, Citadines on Church Street, Williamson Square, Royal Albert Dock, and finally to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for a special Christmas Eve visit.
In each location, the Elf will be up to some classic festive antics, from donning Christmas jumpers to redecorating with toilet paper! At certain stops, she’ll also be collecting Christmas gifts for children at Alder Hey. Visitors can drop off presents at designated collection points listed on the Liverpool BID website.
Katie adds:
“Christmas is such a busy time for our city, from panto to shopping. The Elf on the Shelf is a great way to bring a little fun into the bustle. Last year we had lots of children bringing their wish lists to Santa and delivering them to the Elf. We had lots of Elfies shared on our social media.”
This year, people can view The Elf on the Shelf locations on the Liverpool BID website.
The Elf on the Shelf is inspired by the beloved festive tradition that began with the 2005 picture book by Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell, and Liverpool’s larger-than-life version is the creation of prop and puppet-maker Jenny Simmons, working with Liverpool BID Company and The Lumistella Company’s official UK team.
The fun begins on Monday 1 December and continues until Christmas Eve, just as Liverpool’s Christmas lights shine bright across the city.
This year’s lights, funded 85% by Liverpool BID Company, will illuminate Hope Street, Hardman Street, Bold Street, Church Street and surrounding side streets, Williamson Square, Lime Street, and the Commercial District including Castle Street, Derby Square, Old Hall Street and St Paul’s Square.
The Church Street Christmas Tree will be installed and switched on 20 November, while the city’s official Christmas lights switch-on takes place on Thursday 13 November.
