High streets across the city centre are set to be transformed into a vibrant stage this May as a new initiative looks to weave live performances into the daily life of the city.
From hairdressers to delis, opticians to offices, businesses across Liverpool city centre are being invited to bring live music to their venues to celebrate Liverpool Music Month.
Liverpool Business Improvement District (BID) is offering funding for any business in the city centre to take part in the Summer of Music through the “Making Music for Music Month” scheme.
Participants can choose to host a live music performance or commission a piece of window art to celebrate Liverpool’s musical identity.
From 1st to 31st May, Liverpool Music Month will be a city-wide celebration of the people, projects and creativity that make Liverpool a UNESCO City of Music.
This is backed by a global and national destination marketing campaign to champion the city’s offerings throughout May.
Following this, from 1st June to 31st August, the city region will celebrate Liverpool Summer of Music, highlighting the full calendar of events across the Liverpool City Region.
The World’s Music Capital

The twin campaigns of Liverpool Music Month and Liverpool Summer of Music are designed to target music-loving visitors from across the UK and beyond, encouraging them to experience the best music from around the globe in the World’s Music Capital.
Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool Business Improvement District, said:
“One of the things our businesses always say is that they want to be part of major events when they come to the city.
“We know from our city wide festivals, like Hope Street Blend and Celebrating Bold Street and Castle Street, that businesses along our city centre high streets want to be involved and part and parcel of the culture in the city.
“It’s part of what they call the “pavement ballet”, enhancing and animating the public realm, and giving people a reason to stop for a while and enjoy the sights and sounds.
“Anywhere can be a stage, and we’re encouraging our city centre businesses to prove that.”
How to Apply

The initiative aims to enhance the public realm and give visitors and residents alike a reason to pause and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.
By encouraging businesses to act as unconventional stages, the BID team hopes to ensure that the spirit of the festival is felt on every corner.
Businesses located within the city centre can apply for the funding directly through the Liverpool BID Company.
