The Liverpool City Region has reached a major milestone in the future of its iconic ferry service as the Royal Daffodil has officially been handed over by shipbuilder Cammell Laird ahead of its eagerly anticipated launch later this year.
The handover marks a historic moment for Mersey Ferries, with the Royal Daffodil becoming the first new ferry to join the fleet in more than six decades.
At the same time, residents and visitors have been given their first glimpse inside the vessel, revealing stylish interiors, modern facilities and dedicated event spaces that aim to transform the passenger experience on the River Mersey.
Built by Wirral-based shipbuilder APCL Cammell Laird, the new ferry forms part of a £26 million investment programme designed to modernise the Mersey Ferries fleet and support the continued growth of Liverpool City Region’s visitor economy.

Newly released images showcase a sophisticated and contemporary lounge area located on the Main Deck, which has been designed as a versatile space for conferences, corporate events, weddings and private celebrations.
Passengers can also enjoy spacious open-plan decks, upgraded seating areas and vibrant bar facilities, all designed to make journeys across the River Mersey more comfortable and enjoyable.
The preview also includes a first look at the vessel’s state-of-the-art bridge and outdoor decking areas, offering spectacular panoramic views of Liverpool’s world-famous waterfront.
The Royal Daffodil has been designed with accessibility at its heart, featuring a fully accessible interior and a dedicated lift providing easy access between decks, ensuring all passengers can enjoy the ferry’s facilities.

The new vessel is expected to play a key role in strengthening Liverpool City Region’s tourism offering while also creating a unique floating venue for business events and special occasions.
Mayor Steve Rotheram described the handover as a proud moment for the region and another important investment in its public transport network.
He said:
“This is a proud moment for our region and a big step forward for our public transport network.
“Just like our new publicly owned trains and modern bus fleet, this new ferry sits alongside the very best of our transport investments.
“We want people to step aboard and be genuinely wowed from the moment they arrive.”

The Royal Daffodil’s arrival comes at a time when the Liverpool City Region continues to invest heavily in its transport infrastructure, visitor economy and waterfront attractions.
