Faces behind the Business – Saeed Adam - Liverpool School of English
When did you first get into the industry?

I got into this industry by accident around 10 years ago now, I was approached to do a marketing strategy on ways of recruiting students into Liverpool and after I presented the marketing plan was offered a job. Naturally, I was intrigued and excited to get into an industry that I didn’t have a clue existed but the more I got to know about international student recruitment, travel, and international education the more excited I became, and I’ve never looked back. This is my dream job that has allowed me to visit over 70 different countries around the world in the last 10 years.

How long have you worked at Liverpool School of Englishand what is your job role?

I have been working with Liverpool School of English for nearly 3 years now, as Head of Business Development, which means as well as developing new business leads, promoting study programmes and new recruitment channels, I also look after the student recruitment growth in number markets around the world visiting these countries and attending fairs, conferences, and business to business meetings with both private and government bodies.

What is Liverpool School of English ethos?

Are ethos being to create a nurturing environment were all our students learn and succeed in achieving their goals and aspirations whilst enjoying their experience. We do this by promoting a welcoming, friendly, and caring international environment whilst maintaining the highest professional standards.

We are the oldest and most established English language school in Liverpool with over 20 years of delivering quality education. According to British Council inspection results we are now placed within the top 8% of the schools within the UK. We are passionate about international education and academic excellence as enablers for students to really achieve transformational change.

What is the best bit of advice you could give to anyone looking at working in your line of work?

I would say the following are essential: Good awareness of international affairs, an ability to develop relationships. You have to have an open personality which enables you to make friends easily and   be a good listener as well as the ability to make people laugh, then you’re halfway to developing great business relationships.

Other approaches I would recommend would be good organisational awareness, you must have the ability to respond and act fast to developing situations whilst maintaining clam. I always say think of many scenarios to any situations, and you will always have a plan. Asking the right questions whilst maintaining 100% energy levels throughout, this will allow you to set the right environment which will lead to better chemistry between you and your clients. And finally, but most importantly many of my clients and partners are also my friends – this is probably my favourite part of being in this industry because you get to meet so many wonderful people from all round the world. Like any friendship, the need to devote time and maintenance is crucial. This often leads to winning big contracts and being good at your job.

What do you love most about Liverpool?

I love this city; that is why I love marketing this city to the world so they can experience the wonderful energy and humour I experience every day. The people of this city are its greatest assets as well as being fantastic ambassadors.

If you could describe your business in 3 words what would they be?

Knowledge, memories, Fun.
