Everton supporters heading to Hill Dickinson Stadium tonight are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys due to emergency roadworks on Great Howard Street.

The Blues take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 16 September, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

However, significant disruption is expected around the stadium and Liverpool city centre after emergency infrastructure works resulted in a full northbound closure of Great Howard Street between the Paisley Street area and Walter Street.

Scottish Power is carrying out urgent repairs following a major cable fault, with the closure remaining in place for tonight’s fixture.

A revised traffic management plan will operate around Hill Dickinson Stadium, affecting shuttle buses, parking access and traffic on Boundary Street.

Changes to Everton matchday shuttle buses

Supporters travelling to the stadium on shuttle buses from Liverpool city centre will be diverted via Vauxhall Road and Boundary Street.

The pre-match drop-off point has also been moved to Great Howard Street at its junction with Lightbody Street, which is normally used as the post-match location.

The post-match pick-up point remains unchanged.

Shuttle buses will be given priority through Boundary Street and the railway arch corridor after the game, although supporters have been advised to expect longer journey times.

Changes for Nelson Dock and West Quay parking

Access to Nelson Dock, West Quay and Blue Badge parking within the Ten Streets area will also be affected by the closure.

From 4pm until 8pm, Boundary Street from Vauxhall Street towards Great Howard Street will operate one-way in the direction of Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Supporters booked into Nelson Dock car park are advised to travel along Boundary Street, turn left onto Great Howard Street and then right onto Walter Street.

Those travelling to West Quay should turn right at the bottom of Boundary Street before turning left towards Regent Road.

Stewards, traffic management teams and police will be positioned around the area to assist supporters and manage vehicle movements.

Other Liverpool roads expected to be busier

The Great Howard Street closure is also expected to increase congestion on surrounding routes as motorists are diverted away from the affected section.

Leeds Street, Vauxhall Road, Scotland Road and Regent Road are among the roads expected to experience heavier traffic than usual before and after the match.

Fans are being encouraged to use public transport where possible, follow temporary signage and instructions from matchday staff and check for the latest travel information before setting off.

Merseytravel has also advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional time, with some bus services being diverted because of the closure.

Supporters travelling by rail can use Sandhills, Bank Hall or Moorfields stations, while those able to walk or cycle from Liverpool city centre are being encouraged to consider those options to avoid road congestion.

The arrangements will be reviewed after tonight’s fixture ahead of Everton’s next home game against Ipswich Town at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday 19 September.
