Last week, volunteers from The Florrie, the Dingle-based community hub in Liverpool, gave a group of local children the chance to enjoy an unforgettable adventure in Wales.
Staying at Farms for City Children in Treginnis Isaf, the group immersed themselves in farm life. They explored coastal paths, spotted dolphins and seals, fed pigs, donkeys, chickens, geese and turkeys, and even milked goats. The children also helped care for baby chicks, groomed donkeys, and, in true farm fashion, mucked out animal pens for composting.

For many of the children, it was their first time away from home on such a unique, memory-making trip. The experience also included stargazing during a meteor shower, beach visits, BBQ evenings, and helping to plant and tend to vegetable patches.
The Florrie, a volunteer-led charity supported by donations large and small, hopes to create more of these special opportunities for the community. For children who may never have had access to such experiences, the week provided new friendships, discoveries, and moments they’ll never forget. Families and staff alike described the trip as heart-warming and transformative.
Laurence Fenlon, The Florrie’s Chief Operations Officer, explains:
“We want to say a huge thank you to The Steve Morgan Foundation for making this happen and all the amazing staff at Farms for City Children in Treginnis Isaf. They created an experience the children will be talking about for years to come. We’re immensely proud to be able to create these trips for children and we aim to do more – The Florrie is an independent charity and to achieve this, we need more donations to realise our aims. For anyone who is able to donate and help these projects come to life, every single donation is hugely appreciated by us but also, more importantly, the families who use our services.”
Since Farms for City Children was founded in 1976, more than 100,000 young people have taken part in its week-long residentials, learning about food, farming, and the natural world through hands-on experience.
This opportunity was made possible with support from the Steve Morgan Foundation, which has been dedicated to “changing lives for good” since 2001. Established by businessman and philanthropist Steve Morgan CBE, the foundation provides funding, expertise and practical support to charities and organisations making a positive difference to people’s lives.
