Final preparations are underway for the much-anticipated return of the Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival, taking place on Saturday 13th September 2025.
As the only event of its kind in the north of England, the sprint will see cars from every era – from vintage classics to high-performance racing machines – competing in thrilling time trials along Marine Drive, right beside Southport Beach.

For one day only, normal speed limits on the road will be lifted, allowing competitors to push their cars to the limit on an extended 1,650m course, with runs taking place in both directions.
Spectators can choose between free general admission tickets or VIP passes (£10), which provide access to a dedicated viewing area at the start and finish line. Tickets are available now via Eventbrite.
The event, organised by Aintree Circuit Club and supported by Liverpool Live Radio as media partner, offers a rare chance to witness competitive racing on a public highway. It also revives the town’s historic sprint course, last used in the early 1960s before the creation of the Coastal Road.

Event organiser Michael Ashcroft, the Chairman & Director at Aintree Circuit Club, said:
“We are really building up to this event now, with some fantastic cars taking part that we know people will love to watch.
“We would love to see as many families come down and enjoy all there is on display.
“It would be brilliant to see the Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival being really well supported.
“There are free tickets available, which spectators need to book with this being a motorsport event, as well as VIP tickets.
“After the success of the Southport Air Show, we’re pleased to be able to stage another great event for visitors to come to Southport and enjoy this September.
“This is the third year we have held the Southport Sprint Revival and we want to build on it each year.
“It’s the perfect setting for an event like this, with the track running parallel to Southport Beach and Southport Seawall the perfect viewing spot for spectators.
“There are lots of spots to park nearby and lots of great places close by at Ocean Plaza and in Southport town centre where you can enjoy something to eat or drink.
“With this being a motorsport event, no dogs will be allowed.”
Coinciding with the Southport 24 Hour Yacht Race, the Sprint Revival promises to make Saturday 13th September an unmissable day of sporting spectacle for Southport.
The event will run under a Motor Race Order and Speed Permit issued by Motorsport UK, enabling Sefton Council to temporarily suspend the Road Traffic Act for the competition.
Entries are still open for those wishing to take part.

Michael Ashcroft said:
“We invite people to enter your cars for the upcoming Southport Speed Sprint. Join us for a thrilling competition where speed and skill take centre stage.
“Don’t miss your chance to showcase your vehicle and compete against the best – register now and be part of the excitement!
“Last year we had over 40 cars taking part, with five timed runs plus practice runs, with the leading cars separated by just a few hundredths of a second.
“We’d love to attract even more this year.
“The Southport Sprint Revival is unique. There is nothing else like this in the UK.
“We want to revive and build on Southport’s impressive motorsport heritage.”
This closed road motorsport speed meeting will see Marine Drive closed between 6am and 6pm on 13th September 2025. This will be a competitive, timed, high-speed event.
The diversion route for all traffic will be via: Coastal Road, Weld Road, Lulworth Road, Aughton Road, Lord Street West, Lord Street, Duke Street, Leicester Street, Promenade, Fairway, Marine Drive and vice versa.
