Dry January Tips – Staying Sober For A Whole Month in Liverpool

  • December 29, 2018
  • Editor

Yes, enduring four booze-free weeks is now the accepted New Year norm. ‘Drink less’ is definitely up there as one of the most popular of resolutions.

It’s universally acknowledged that January is by far the worst four weeks of the year, a misery of a month lurking in the shadows of your post Christmas gin hangover and waiting to drag us kicking and screaming back to the reality of 9-5.

So, if you’re thinking of taking on 744 hours of January without a drink in your hand, let’s toast to your new and improved health with something non alcoholic.

Of course, this doesn’t mean your social life has to suffer, which is why we’ve put together a list of our favourite places that will help make your dry January a bit easier!

Bakchich Lebanese Restaurant

54 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4ER

The Lebanese street food restaurant not only delivers some gorgeous food but as it’s a strictly non-alcoholic space they have some amazing alternatives all made from freshly squeezed fruit juices.

Our personal favourite is the pomegranate mocktail made from lemonade, fresh pomegranate, rose water and pomegranate fruit puree!  If mocktails aren’t your thing though they have a selection of flavoured beers and signature juices!

The Brink

21 Parr Street, Liverpool, L1 4JN

Probably an obvious one for the list but one that definitely deserves a mention!  The Brink was Liverpool’s first dry bar, and with a cosy homey atmosphere it’s a great place for an afternoon or evening catching up with friends over a few mocktails and game of scrabble!  We recommend trying the ‘Shampagne’ – a blend of elderflower, lime, orange blossom and soda served in a champagne flute with a strawberry garnish or their ‘Brink Panther’ – fresh strawberries, cranberry juice, superfruit tea, elderflower cordial all blended with ice and topped with pink lemonade.

Be At One

11-13 Seel Street, Liverpool, L1 4AU

Be at One have over 150 cocktails on their menu and they have an entire section dedicated to non-alcoholic alternatives, all mocktails cost just £4 and you’ll want to try them all!  ‘On The Wagon’ is a creamy and fruity mocktail with tropical hints, a blend of fresh fruit including strawberries, bananas and pineapple with a bit of coconut cream, definitely giving us beach holiday vibes.

Moloko

The Old Stables, 2 Old Peter’s Lane, Liverpool, L1 4AS

Not a place you’d typically expect to find mocktails on offer but Moloko has you covered!  They even often have 2 for 1 happy hour available so you really have no choice but to sample a bit of everything on the menu.

Il Forno

132 Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 5AG

Famous for their stone baked pizzas and fresh pasta dishes Il Forno is probably one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, and to make it even better they have a number of lovely mocktails on their menu too!  Their sister restaurant, Crust also has some exciting options for you to try.

Camp and Furnace

67 Greenland Street, Liverpool, L1 0BY

While camp and furnace don’t typically offer a wide selection of mocktails on their menu the bar staff are always more than willing to make something to your taste!

Salt House Tapas

Church House, 1 Hanover Street, Liverpool, L1 3DW

Whilst their selection of mocktails is pretty small, the drinks on offer are definitely worth trying! ‘Bloody Shame’ is just £2.95 and contains a blend of tomato juice, orange juice, lemon juice and spices – simply but definitely packs a punch.

The Shipping Forecast

5 Slater Street, Liverpool, L1 4BW

Not only is this one of our favourites places to grab a burger (2 for 1 on Tuesdays) but they also have some great non-alcoholic drinks on offer.

With choices from their drinks menu like ‘Dalston’s Cherryade’ made with real British cherries giving a mixture of sweet & sour flavours, or the ‘Strawberry and Cracked Black Pepper’ juice bursting with flavour, there is also the healthy option of the ‘Seedlip Grove 42’ which is not only refreshing but also lighter on the calories intake!
