The Italian Quarter in Liverpool reopens after transformation

Following a seven-figure transformation, Liverpool’s Italian Quarter has reopened its doors.

The venue, located on Tarleton Street in the heart of Liverpool, is the Cillo family’s passion project and features a number of independent businesses, all bringing a taste of authentic Italy to the city. Antonietta Gelato & Cioccolato, an artisan chocolatier, joined it this week.

This Friday, the family will celebrate with a food extravaganza at their Williamson Square hub, with each location offering free food between 4pm and 6pm, including gelato, pastries, high-quality cakes, coffees, and more.

Owner Donato Cillo said:

“We have waited a long time to officially open the doors of the Quarter in its entirety and it’s such an exciting time for everyone involved.

“We want to do whatever we can to say thank you to the community that has welcomed and supported us – ever since we first started our businesses in Liverpool. We first launched the Italian Quarter back in 2012, but have continued to expand the venture over the years – it’s been magic.”

Other Cillo family members have now joined the ranks, each with their own authentically Italian avenue in the space. Each item is handmade from scratch every day, resulting in decades of experience and dedication.

The in-house bakery, located on the top floor of the Quarter and away from the public eye, produces thousands of bespoke, upmarket, and elaborate celebration and occasion cakes and pastries on a daily basis.

Donato’s passion project is finally finished after years of honing and fine-tuning.

He added:

“We wanted to make sure families and friends would have something to enjoy, and this Friday as part of the celebrations, every business of the Quarter, every element of the family, will show just what we have to offer. We want everyone to enjoy and try our philosophy; the concept of the business, which is if we haven’t made it, we don’t sell it.”

Gelato and dessert experts Antonietta Gelato & Cioccolato will provide free sticky waffles and crepes; coffee and cake experts will be on hand. P&D Gran Caffe will provide complimentary coffee and mini cakes, as well as savoury specialists. Hey Farina will provide free Margherita focaccia, and Brunchin’ will provide free mini pancakes.

The Italian Quarter’s celebration event will take place this Friday, September 22 between 4pm and 6pm.
