Wirral Steakhouse, Rokka has recently been listed in the Top 7 Wirral Restaurants of 2022 in a survey from The Wirral Globe, despite a string of bad luck.
The popular gem, located on Allport Lane in Bromborough, came out as the highest ranked Wirral steakhouse in the recent poll.
Rokka was opened by Yusuf Mutlu in January 2020 — right before Covid and lockdowns hit. To make matters worse, he suffered a heart attack in the restaurant and then in 2021 the restaurant was subject to a large group of customers refusing to pay a near £500 bill! Despite all this, they have survived and have now been voted in the Top 7 Wirral Restaurants of 2022 list.
Owner Yusuf Mutlu said:
“We’ve had some really bad luck and all these things that have happened have been really hard. We are so passionate here though and very determined — we love our customers and when they say nice things it makes it all worthwhile. Being voted in the Top 7 was amazing.”
He continued:
“When I had a heart attack in the restaurant, it was suggested I take some time out but I was straight back in the kitchen. I am a natural hard worker and I wasn’t going to let that stop me! Then, when the large group left without paying the big bill, it set us back badly financially but the local community got behind us and we survived.”
Rokka has had many outstanding customer reviews — with one stating it’s THE best steakhouse Rokka is open 7 days a week and offers starters, mezzes, burgers, specials and of course the finest steaks including Tomahawks. Locals love it for its gorgeous decor and environment, top quality food and amazing service.
The small team at the family run independent are very attentive and always make a fuss for special occasions. Most who know about this little gem in Bromborough love it so much they keep on coming back — especially for the 20% off Mon-Weds offer and their colourful and creative cocktails (2 for £8.95 on Thurs and Sun).
The restaurant’s famous Tomahawk Challenge is not to be taken lightly, that’s for sure! Attempt to eat a huge Tomahawk steak and 2 sides in 2 and a half hours — so far just 5 people have managed it but if you complete it you get 10% off, a bottle of bubbly and the chance of winning a weekend break away.
Yusuf summarised:
“These past two years have not been easy and now we have to fight the increase of energy prices and products but we will survive. It’s the support from our customers, especially those who return, that keeps us going and when we get great reviews and get recognised it makes all the adversity worthwhile.”
A great success story of how an independent restaurant has survived despite facing lots of bad luck, Rokka’s story is a triumph for local business. With top quality food, service, decor and atmosphere, with some great offers, let’s hope Rokka continues to thrive regardless of what comes their way.
