WO Market call out to local makers, bakers and creators

  • November 22, 2022

The Women’s Organisation in Liverpool is offering local retailers the opportunity to promote their products or services to a 21,000 strong audience.

They are calling out to local, independent makers, bakers and creators to share their wares in an online market this Thursday, November 24.

The WO Market aims to encourage people to shop local this Christmas, and consider crafty, artisanal items for Christmas gifting.

Its organisers say they also hope that the market could help ease the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis, by persuading people to purchase more thoughtfully this year.

Marketing co-ordinator, Cynthia Ajayi, who is organising the event said:

“We’ve run the market now for a few years, and it’s always proven to be popular.

“We really hope that this year, given the economic landscape and the growing pressure on people’s pockets, we’ll see more businesses engaging with the market than ever before.

“There are more than 40,000 small and micro businesses operating in the Liverpool City Region, employing more than 500,000 people. Those businesses are the backbone of our economy. Let’s show them some support!

“The market is open to all local businesses. Food and drink businesses, fashion brands, artists, designers… butchers, bakers and candlestick makers – we are urging everybody with a product or a service to sell or promote to get involved.

“All you need to do is share your wares with us on an Instagram post or a story, tag us in at @TheWomensOrganisation and use the hashtag #WOMARKET – we will share and add your post to our WO Market highlights for our savvy shoppers.”

Cynthia is also organising a swap and shop charity fundraising event alongside Olivia Matlock, who also works at The Women’s Organisation.

The swap and shop will take place at Chapters of Us on December 1. It aims to offer local people a more ethical and cost-savvy way to shop this Christmas, by bringing along gently used clothing items or unused or unwanted gifts and swap them for something new.

All funds raised will go to the Zim Project. You can find more details about the event here.
