Where to Eat in Liverpool if You Need Step-Free Access

Liverpool is a brilliant city for food lovers, with everything from casual street eats to high-end dining. But if you or someone you’re dining with uses a wheelchair or has limited mobility, it’s not just about what’s on the menu — it’s about how easy it is to get through the door.

Luckily, many restaurants across Liverpool are taking accessibility seriously, offering step-free entrances, wide doorways, and accessible toilets. We’ve rounded up some of the best wheelchair-friendly places to eat in the city, along with their locations, to help you plan your next meal out with confidence.

1. The Quarter

7 Falkner Street, Georgian Quarter, L8 7PU

Nestled just off Hope Street, The Quarter is a charming bistro that’s fully wheelchair accessible with level access from the street. It’s ideal for brunch or a casual dinner, with plenty of space between tables and friendly staff always happy to help.

Their menu includes hearty Mediterranean-inspired dishes, fresh pasta and indulgent desserts. There’s also outdoor seating on a wide pavement, perfect for sunny days.

2. Leaf on Bold Street

65-67 Bold Street, City Centre, L1 4EZ

Leaf is a Liverpool staple. Housed in a former 1920s cinema, this spacious venue offers step-free access and an accessible toilet on the ground floor. There’s a lift to the upper floors if you’re attending an event or live gig.

With everything from vegan full English breakfasts to hearty mains and an impressive tea menu, it’s a versatile spot for all times of day. It’s also just minutes from Liverpool Central Station.

3. Panoramic 34

West Tower, Brook Street, L3 9PJ

If you’re after fine dining with a view, Panoramic 34 is a fantastic choice. Located on the 34th floor of the West Tower, this upscale restaurant offers breathtaking views over the Mersey and beyond — and yes, it’s fully accessible, with lift access directly to the restaurant.

They offer a modern British menu with seasonal dishes and a tasting menu option for special occasions. It’s just a short distance from the Liverpool waterfront.

4. Maray

91 Bold Street, City Centre, L1 4HF

Maray on Bold Street serves up small plates with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours. It has level access from the street and the layout inside is quite open, though it’s a good idea to book in advance as the restaurant can get busy.

The team are always happy to accommodate accessibility needs, and there’s a great mix of veggie and meat-based dishes. Don’t miss their famous falafel or disco cauliflower.

5. Trattoria 51

25-31 Old Hall Street, City Centre, L3 9BS

Just a few minutes from Moorfields Station, Trattoria 51 is an Italian restaurant with full wheelchair access, wide doors and accessible toilets. The space is modern and open, making it easy to get around.

The menu includes authentic pizzas, pasta, and gluten-free options. They also offer a dedicated allergen-friendly menu and are well-reviewed for accommodating dietary and mobility needs alike.

6. Frederiks

32 Hope Street, Georgian Quarter, L1 9BX

Located on the iconic Hope Street between the two cathedrals, Frederiks is a cool and relaxed spot known for small plates, cocktails and jazz nights. The venue does not have steps and has a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

It’s a local favourite for Sunday roasts and has a laid-back atmosphere perfect for a long lunch or evening out. You’ll also find regular live music events in the evenings.

7. The Watering Can

Greenbank Park, 64 Greenbank Road, L18 1HQ

For something more scenic, The Watering Can is a hidden gem in Greenbank Park. It offers easy access for wheelchairs with ramped entrances and plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the gardens.

The menu is fresh and seasonal, with everything from light bites to Sunday roasts. The space inside is airy and welcoming, and the staff are known for being attentive and helpful.

8. Bundobust

1st Floor, 17-19 Bold Street, City Centre, L1 4DN

Bundobust brings bold Indian street food flavours to Liverpool in a modern, accessible setting. The Bold Street entrance is step-free, and the layout inside is spacious and easy to navigate.

Their veggie and vegan menu is packed with flavour — think okra fries, paneer tikka, and bhel puri. Pair it with a craft beer from their own brewery. It’s a great spot for a relaxed, informal meal.

9. The Restaurant Bar & Grill Liverpool

Halifax House, Brunswick Street, Liverpool L2 0UU

Located in the heart of Liverpool’s business district, The Restaurant Bar & Grill offers spacious, easy-access access from the street and wide aisles inside, making it easy for wheelchair users to move around. They have an accessible toilet on-site and are known for their friendly service. The menu features classic British dishes with a modern twist, perfect for lunch or dinner.

10. Hawksmoor Liverpool

8 Brunswick Street, Liverpool L2 0PL

Hawksmoor is a popular steakhouse right near Liverpool’s waterfront. The venue has level access through the main entrance and offers an accessible toilet. The interior is stylish yet spacious, allowing for comfortable wheelchair manoeuvring. Known for its excellent steaks and seafood, Hawksmoor is a great choice for a special night out with step-free access.

Top Tips Before You Head Out

Here are some helpful tips to ensure your dining experience is smooth, enjoyable, and free from any unexpected issues:

  • Call ahead to confirm wheelchair access, accessible toilets, and any specific needs you may have.
  • Reserve a table in advance to ensure a comfortable and suitable spot.
  • Check public transport options or parking facilities nearby that accommodate mobility requirements.

Improving Access at Home and Business

Whether you’re a homeowner or business owner, making spaces more accessible is not only important, but it’s essential. Stairlifts offer a simple solution for overcoming stairs, encourage independence and significantly improve customer experience.

Stairlifts Liverpool provides new and used straight and curved stairlifts across Liverpool and the North West, with expert advice and quick installation to fit your needs. Making access easier means more freedom both at home and out in the city.

Enjoy Accessible Dining in Liverpool

Liverpool is becoming more inclusive, and its restaurant scene reflects that. From city centre favourites to hidden suburban gems, there are plenty of places offering great food and good access for wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility.

If you’re heading out for a quick bite or planning a special meal, the restaurants above prove that accessibility and atmosphere can go hand in hand. – Enjoy your meal!
