From May 31 to June 30, Start Yard will host a stunning exhibition of sea and nature art. Renowned local artist Derek Prescott (MA) is holding a large launch event on Friday, May 31st, starting at 5 pm, to showcase his most recent landscape and seascape paintings for sale as well as for viewing pleasure.
Free tickets are available for the VIP launch event on Friday evening. The gifted artist will be exhibiting his captivating acrylic on canvas masterpieces at Birkenhead’s creative space. All of the pieces are inspired by local and Welsh landscape and nature.
During his over 40-year career, the New Brighton-based artist has exhibited all over the world, as far and wide as Moscow and the U.S. International sales of his paintings have come from avid collectors worldwide as well as from many local art lovers enthralled with the landscapes and seascapes he paints. He took first prize in the 2020 Open Exhibition at Williamson Art Gallery with the Kriterion Prize.
After gaining Degrees in Sociology and Art, followed by a Masters in Post Modern Theory Practise (Tate Gallery), Derek went on to become an art teacher in Russia and then back in the UK. Following his early retirement, he decided to focus on his art career and has since had a number of solo exhibitions with great success.
Speaking of this forthcoming one, he said:
“I’m really looking forward to showcasing my latest work at Start Yard — it’s a great space and ideal for such an exhibition. I’ve put a lot of time into creating special pieces that aim to capture nature and sea in their most beautiful forms — from wild skies to flocks of birds to crashing waves.”
The VIP launch night will include a private viewing, a first opportunity to purchase art, a chance to meet the artist, live music, and drinks from the Start Yard bar. The event begins at 5pm, finishing at 9pm, with a limited number of tickets available for free via Eventbrite.
