A popular summertime Stagecoach service, offering sweeping views of the Wirral waterfront, has experienced an unprecedented hike in passenger numbers this year.
The Route 400 bus, better known as the Coastal Breezer, carried 10,552 passengers this summer, a 25% increase on the 8439 passengers carried during the corresponding period in 2024.
The daily open-top service operated between Seacombe Ferry Terminal and New Brighton from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 31st August; offering visitors a fresh, fun, and affordable way to enjoy the Merseyside coastline.
Designed to make summer travel easy and enjoyable, the bus timetable was carefully aligned with Mersey Ferry sailings, enabling seamless connections for passengers arriving at Seacombe.
An ongoing partnership between Stagecoach and Merseytravel also enabled Mersey Ferry ticket holders and visitors to Eureka! Science + Discovery Centre to travel on the Breezer free of charge.
Matt Davies, Managing Director for Stagecoach Merseyside and Cheshire said:
“It’s great that the Breezer was so popular this year and was able to take advantage of what has been the warmest summer ever recorded in the UK.
“We work very hard alongside our partners to ensure that the service offers a fun, frequent, accessible and cost-effective option for people exploring the area.
“It’s a great demonstration of how well-planned and integrated bus services can support our local communities and tourism economy, while providing people with a memorable experience.”
The Coastal Breezer fares are kept as low as possible, with an adult single fare priced at just £1, and a family ticket available for only £5 (valid for up to two adults and three children), making it one of the region’s best-value summer travel options.
