Speedo Mick, a Liverpool man who raised over £1m for charity by walking in his swimming trunks, will have his story told in a new show at Liverpool’s Royal Court.

Speedo Mick – The Scouse Stomper will tell the tale of Michael Cullen, who was awarded Liverpool’s Citizen of Honour in May this year. The show will open from 30 May to 5 July.

Speedo Mick - The Scouse Stomper is coming to Liverpool's Royal Court

This is the story of a man who had lost everything. His family, his home, his mind, his soul, the lot. He’d burned every bridge and was left feeling angry and blue. As he got clean, he wanted to give something back so he set about raising money.

He ran marathons until his knees gave out, he swam the channel until his shoulder packed in. And after that? Well, he had the Everton swimming trunks and he fancied a walk…

Come and join us for a brand new musical that celebrates one of the biggest characters to come out of this city. He went from being the homeless guy in the shop doorway and the man they said wouldn’t amount to anything to raising more than £1,000,000 for disadvantaged young people and the homeless.

Kevin Fearon, Executive Producer at Liverpool’s Royal Court, said:

“At the Royal Court we pride ourselves on telling the stories of Liverpool, and none is quite so weird and wonderful as Speedo Mick. As a charity fundraiser he has inspired millions, but we think there are aspects of his story that will tug on the heartstrings. It will be ten years in 2025 since he began fundraising so it is fitting that, to mark it, he gets his story told on the stage of Liverpool’s Royal Court”.

Tickets are now on sale here.
