Southport charity football match returns today with star-studded line-up

Southport Hesketh Round Table is inviting people to enjoy a star-studded charity football match at Southport FC today, Saturday 1 August 2026.

The second annual Charity Match at Haig Avenue will feature celebrities, former professional footballers and well-known local personalities, alongside live music and entertainment hosted by Claire Simmo and Baz Todd.

The event offers an opportunity for the community to come together during a week that marked the second anniversary of the Southport tragedy.

Every penny raised during the match will be divided between the families directly affected.

Among those due to play are This City Is Ours star James Nelson-Joyce, MMA fighter “Meatball” Molly McCann, Southport FC manager Neil Danns, former Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert, Scouse GK and social media personality Callum Skillen.

The two teams will be managed by former Everton league title winner Ian Snodin and Liverpool legend John Aldridge.

Tickets can be purchased online through Southport FC’s ticketing website and will also be available at the gate.

This is the second time the Charity Match has taken place. Last year, supporters helped to raise an incredible £48,000, and organisers are hoping the community will once again turn out in large numbers.

Volunteers from Southport Hesketh Round Table will be at the ground throughout the day selling raffle tickets, with a range of prizes donated by local businesses available to win.

Anyone unable to attend the match can still support the fundraising appeal by donating through the Southport Hesketh Round Table GoFundMe page.

Marc Foreman from Southport Hesketh Round Table said:

“Two years ago, we were broken as a community from the devastating events that happened here in Southport. Just a few streets away from my house.

“But the same day, I set up a Go Fund Me page that helped us raise over £200k for the families directly affected! Click here if you’d like to donate: Fundraiser by Southport Hesketh Round Table : Helping the Southport Families After 29th July 2024 Attack

“Fast forward a year ago, none of us could have imagined the journey our community would be on and the help and support we had, which included working with the amazing Southport FC on their first Charity Celebrity Football Match… and guess what, this Saturday (1st August 2026), we’re doing it all again!

“The second Charity Celebrity Football Match takes place at Southport FC, bringing together celebrity players, live entertainment, family activities and plenty of community spirit for what promises to be another special day.

“As anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m usually somewhere behind the scenes with a radio that I don’t really know how to use, and a growing list of things I’ve forgotten to do.

“The weeks leading up to these events are always a mixture of excitement, panic, very little sleep, and a lot of asking kind people for help!

“But every late night, every meeting and every bit of effort is worth it when you remember why we’re doing this.

“Every penny raised goes directly to the families impacted by the Southport tragedy.

I’d also like to thank all the local businesses who have kindly donated raffle prizes.

“Around eight or nine of us from Southport Hesketh Round Table will be walking around the ground selling raffle tickets this Saturday – please be generous!

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, whether through volunteering, donating, attending events, or simply sharing our posts. The kindness shown by our community continues to amaze me.

“There’s still tickets for the Charity Celebrity Football Match available, so click here to purchase: https://southportfc.ktckts.com/…/sfc2627c…/charity-match

“Let’s make it another day that shows the very best of Southport and raise vital funds for those families.”
